The "lang" field is special. If you look for a string that contains two or three letters only, as in lang:en or lang:san, it is assumed to refer to an ISO 639 language code, and an exact comparison is performed. If you look for a string longer than that, it is assumed to refer to a language name and the above-mentioned substring matching technique will be used instead. Summary: King: Kulōttuṅga I. Year 2: 1072 A.D.
It begins with the meykīrtti of the ruler, tirumaṉṉi-viḷaṅgu. It records that Rājarājan Paranirupa Rākshasa alias Vīrachōḷa Iḷaṅgovēḷār, a resident of Naḍār in Tiraimūr-nāḍu in Uyyakoṇḍār-vaḷanāḍu (a sub-division) of Chōḻa-maṇḍalam deposited two hundred and forty aṉṟāḍu-naṟkāśu for the anointment ceremony of the god Kārāṇaiviṭaṅkadēvar of Tiruvoṟṟiyūr.
The inscription further states that the sabhai of Siṅgavishṇu-chaturvēdimaṅgalam received sixty kāśu from the temple authorities (Ādichaṇḍēśvara), of the temple and sold 6000 kuḻi of land (3 vēli), to the temple.
The ūrār of Ambilvāyil received forty kāśu and sold 4000 kuḻi (2 vēli).
The ūrār of Igaṇaiyūr received sixty kāśu and sold 6000 kuḻi (3 vēli).
The ūrār of Vēḻsāṟu sold 4000 kuḻi (2 vēli) of land after the receipt of forty kāśu.
The ūrār of Piraiyappākkam received forty kāśu and sold 4000 kuḻi (2 vēli) to the temple.
It is also stated that these 24,000 kuḻi of land ie. 12 vēli was purchased with all its appurtenances from the above four villages after remitting both the price-money and tax-money and the local assemblies agreed to pay taxes such as pañchavāram, vēlikkāśu, nīrvilai and other taxes.
Further it is also recorded that the produce of the land 176 kalam of paddy was to be apportioned for providing various rituals and services such as anointment ceremony of the deity, feeding the devotees, maintenance of cows and calves, supplying of flowers and oil.
It is also mentioned that provisions were also made for the livelihood of temple personnel, ie. priests, singers, the persons who expound grammar and śaivasūtra, the temple supervisors, watch and ward, the astrologer, the persons who recite Śivadharamma and tiruppadiyam, palanquin-bearers, cooks, carpenters, who maintained temple cars, goldsmiths and other persons who render miscellaneous services.
It is also mentioned that, Śēvūrch-chēvuḻāṉ a (residents) of Pagavūr-nāḍu in Īśūr-kōṭṭam were to carry out these arrangements under the orders of Śrīmāhēśvaras.

Summary: This inscription registers an endowment of two plots of land made by the assembly (peruṅguṟi-perumakkaḷ) of Pēriṅgūr, one for burning a perpetual lamp in the temple of Mūlasthānattu-Perumānaḍigaḷ, and the other for the daily feeding of a tapasvin in the temple, made for the merit of a servant of the temple named Gaṇavadi Nambi Ārūraṉ who is said to have sacrificed his life for the service of the deity. The exact nature of the sacrifice and the necessity for it are not given in the inscription. The former land is stated to have been left in charge of the Rudragaṇap-perumakkaḷ for being reclaimed. This may belong to Rājarāja I to whose inscription (No. 219 of 1906) on the same wall it bears a close resemblance in writing.

Summary: The subjoined record is also dated in the 2nd year of Sakalabhuvanachakravartin Kōpperuñjiṅgadēva. It registers a gift of land, after purchase, from a certain Ārāvamudu-Bhaṭṭaṉ by Śīyārūrdēvaṉ Ādichchadēvaṉ of Kuṟuchchi in Kiḷiyūr-nāḍu, a subdivision of Pāṇḍikulāśaṉi-vaḷanāḍu for the early morning service, sacred bath on Saturdays, unguents, garlands and offerings to the god Śivalōkamuḍaiya-Nāyaṉār at Tiruppuṉgūr in Tiruvāli-nāḍu, a subdivision of Rājādhirāja-vaḷanāḍu.
The astronomical details given in the record correspond to A.D. 1245, February 16, Thursday, with the emendation ba. 4 for ba. 14.

Summary: This fragmentary1 inscription mentions the 6th year of the reign of a king whose name, which is lost in the missing portion, may be Sundara-Chōḷa-Pāṇḍya. It is noteworthy that a seat in the kūḍam or hall of the palace was called Rājēndraśōḻa-Kārāṉai-viḻupparaiyaṉ, evidently after the name of the officer, ‘Tirumandira-ōlaināyakam’ of the same name, who also figures in this record; and that the king was seated on this seat while issuing the order, which in its entirety may have some reference to the gift of the taxes on the lands in a village called Māṉābharaṇa-chaturvēdimaṅgalam, which had been endowed as a dēvadāna to the temple of Rājēndraśōḻaviṇṇagar-Dēvar. The revenue officers mentioned here figure in other records of this viceroy.

Summary: This is evidently an inscription of Rājarāja I. It states that queen [Pañcha]vaṉ-Mādēviyār paid a visit to the temple of Tiruviḍaimaruduḍaiyār to offer worship to the deity, when she was waited upon by Śiṟṟāyiluḍaiyāṉ the temple manager, the dēvakarmis, the sabhā and the nagaram (merchant guild ?) of Tiruviḍaimarudil. She is also said to have visited the big flower-garden (presented to the temple by ?) Śembiyaṉ-Mādēvi, and this occasion seems to have been marked by some gift of land for the upkeep of the gardener. At this portion the record is damaged.

It registers a gift of 32 cows and a bull by Koṟṟamāṉ Malaiyaṉ Paḻandiyarāyaṉ of Pālaiyūr alias Rājēndraśōḻanallūr in Pālaiyūr-nāḍu, a subdivision of Ūṟṟukkāṭṭu-kōṭṭam which was a district in Jayaṅgoṇḍaśōḻa-vaḷanāḍu, for burning a perpetual lamp in the temple of Tiruvīraṭṭānamuḍaiya-Nāyaṉār at Tiruvadigai.
The village Pālaiyūr may be identified with Pālūr in the Chingleput taluk.

Summary: In this record which is dated in the 3rd year, Aḻagiyapallavaṉ Vīrarāyaṉ alias Kachchiyarāyaṉ confirms the gifts of the dēvadāna villages and lands granted as maḍappuṟam, by Aiyyadēvar, for worship and repairs, to the temple of Āḍavalla-Nāyaṉār at Muññūr alias Rājanārāyaṇa-chaturvēdimaṅgalam.
Aiyyadēvar mentioned here seems to refer to Kōpperuñjiṅga’s father Maṇavāḷapperumāḷ, also known as Aḻagiyapallavaṉ alias Kāḍavarāyaṉ and mentioned in a record from the same village1 dated in the 33rd year of Tribhuvanavīradēva.
Aḻagiyapallavaṉ Vīrarāyaṉ alias Kachchiyarāyaṉ was probably an officer under Kōpperuñjiṅga, if not the latter’s brother. His name suggests that he was the son of Aḻagiyapallavaṉ i.e., Kōpperuñjiṅgadēva (I).

Summary: This incomplete epigraph dated in the 6th year of Jaṭāvarman Sundara-Chōḷa-Pāṇḍya relates to some gift, the nature of which is not specified, made by Śēndaṉ-Nambi-Naṅgai, for burning a lamp in front of the Tirumūlasthāṉattu-Mahādēva at Tiruchchālaittuṟai in Rājarāja-chaturvēdimaṅgalam, a brahmadēya in Muḷḷi-nāḍu, a subdivision of Muḍikoṇḍaśōḻa-vaḷanāḍu, a division of Rājarāja-Pāṇḍināḍu. Śēndaṉ Irugaiyaṉ, a merchant of Kshatriyaśikhāmaṇipuram is stated to be her guardian (Mudugaṇ).

Summary: This is a slightly damaged record, registering some provision made by a native of Paiyūr-kōṭṭam for burning a perpetual lamp in the temple of Tiruviśalūr-Āḷvār at Amaninārāyaṇa-chaturvēdimaṅgalam. Avaninārāyaṇa was a well known title of Pallava Nandivarman III (S.I.I. Vol. XII, p. 28). Paiyūr-kōṭṭam seems to have roughly comprised the present Ponneri taluk of the Chingleput district (See A.R. No. 252 of 1912).

Summary: This record is dated in the 6th year of Jaṭāvarman Sundara-Chōḷapāṇḍya and registers a gift of two buffaloes by a certain veḷḷāḷa of Āṟṟūr-Śēndamaṅgalam, a brahmadēya in Kuḍa-nāḍu for a lamp in the temple of Sōmanāthadēva. These were left in the charge of two Śivabrāhmaṇas of the temple, who had to supply the ghee necessary for the burning of the lamp.

Summary: A grant of 475 kuḻi of garden land is recorded in this inscription, dated in the 3rd year, by Tiruchchiṟṟambalamuḍaiyāṉ Sundarapāṇḍya-Brahmārāyaṉ of Śōḻakulāntaka-chaturvēdimaṅgalam, a brahmadēya in Pāgaṉūr-kūṟṟam, a subdivision of Pāṇḍimaṇḍalam, for offerings to the god Vaikuṇṭhatt-Emberumāṉ at Tiruveṇṇainallūr, a brahmadēya in Tirumuṉaippāḍi Tiruveṇṇainallūr-nāḍu in Rājarāja-vaḷanāḍu, on the 7th day of the festival in the months of Āṉi (May-June) and Puraṭṭādi (August-September).
The village Śōḻakulāntaka-chaturvēdimaṅgalam is evidently called so after the surname Śōḻāntaka1 or Śōḻakulāntaka of the early Pāṇḍya king Vīra-Pāṇḍya or Jaṭāvarman Śrīvallabha (Ep. Rep. for 1910, para. 31). This village may be identified with Teṉkarai in the Nilakkottai taluk of the Madura district.
The inscription mentions also a grain measure called Adigaināyakaṉ-marakkāl, probably named after the deity at Tiruvadigai.
The astronomical details cited in the record are not regular.

Summary: This inscription, dated in the 3rd year, registers a gift of 1(1/2) mā of land as tirunāmattukkāṇi to the god at Tirukkōḍikā in Nallāṟṟūr-nāḍu, a subdivision of Virudarājabhayaṅkara-vaḷanāḍu by Pākkamuḍaiyāṉ Pañchaṉ Uḍaiyapiḷḷai of Iḷamaṅgalam in Jayaṅgoṇḍaśōḻa-maṇḍalam alias Śiṅgapura-nāḍu, after purchasing it from Kautsaṉ Tribhuvanasundaraṉ Dekkaṇāmūtti-Bhaṭṭaṉ who had the Śaivāchārya-right in the temple and his younger brother Kaṟpagar alias Tribhuvanasundara-Bhaṭṭaṉ.
The details of date given in the inscription correspond to A.D. 1244, May 17, Tuesday, which, however, did not fall in the 3rd year of the chief. The details are also regular for A.D. 1234, May 9, Tuesday which would fall in the reign of the elder chief.

Summary: This records an agreement given, in consideration of a lump amount received from the donor, by the peruṅguṟi-sabhai of Śrīkaṇṭha-chaturvēdimaṅgalam who had assembled in the (hall called) Tiruchchitrakūḍam at the village, remitting the payment of the tax due on 4 mā of land endowed by a resident of the village named Tiruppēr Bālāśiriyaṉ Mādhavaṉ Subrahmaṇyaṉ for the daily feeding of a Brāhmaṇa versed in the Vēdas in the feeding-house attached to the temple of Tiruveṟumbiyūr-Āḻvār on the hill. This is one of the 6 inscriptions of the place assigned to Āditya I on the basis of which the dates have been calculated by the late Mr. L.D.Swamikannu Pillai (M.E.R. for 1915, Appendix F) with five possible English equivalents in the period of his reign. But it has been shown above under No. 110 that they may, with greater probability, be referred to the reign of Gaṇḍarāditya of Sundara-Chōḷa.

Summary: On the north and west walls, central shrine, Gaṅgājaṭādhara temple.
Year 14: 985 A.D.
This inscription has two sections. The first one is in Sanskrit and the second portion in Tamil.
The first portion eulogises that Ambalavan Paḻuvūr-Nakkaṉ of Kuvuḷālapuram was born in a good caste and that he founded one dynasty. He was an embodiment of munificience and his foes knew him as a personification of bravery. The damsels knew him as an incarnation of cupid and scholars knew him as dharma incarnate. He had gained the appreciation of Vikramachōḻa by the show of his valour. In the 14th regnal year of the King he converted the temple of Sambhu at Vijayamaṅgalam in the agrahāra of Śrī Vānavanmahādēvi-chaturvēdimaṅgalam into stone and gifted the village Neḍuvāyil, attached to the same greater Vānavaṉmahādēvi-chaturvēdimaṅgalam, after purchasing it and getting it made tax-free from the Mahāparishad of the same agrahāra for the worship of the god and celebration of festivals in the said temple.
The Tamil version of the record states that Ambalavaṉ Paḻuvūr Nakkaṉ alias Vikrama chōḷa mahārājan of Kuvaḷālapuram, the perundaram official of the king had constructed the temple of Vijayamaṅgalattu-Mahādēvar at Śrī Vāṉavanmahādēvichaturvēdimaṅgalam, a brahmadēyam on the northern bank (of the river) in stone. He also gifted Neḍuvāyil, a northern hamlet of the village of Vānavaṉmahādēvichaturvēdimaṅgalam with all its appurtenances, after purchase from the peruṅkuṟipperumakkaḷ of the above village and donated it as a bhōgam to the god of Vijayamaṅgalam for providing food offerings and also for conducting various services, worship and festivals to the deity. He also gave seven hundred kāśu and got the donated village freed from taxes by the same sabhā. The madhyastha of the village Niṉṟāṉ Āra Amudan Vānavamādēvipperuṅgāvidi wrote this charter.

Summary: In this record, also of the 3rd year, the chief is called Aḻagiya-Pallavaṉ Kōpperuñjiṅgadēva i.e., Kōpperuñjiṅgadēva, son of Aḻagiya-Pallavaṉ. The inscription states that the tank called ‘Puttēri’ in Muḍigoṇḍaśōḻach-chaturvēdimaṅgalam was the gift of Nāchchiyāṇḍār, wife of Nāṭṭupperumāḷ and mother of Akaḷaṅka-Nāḍāḻvāṉ.

Summary: This also, like No. 138 above, records an agreement by the peruṅguṟi-sabhai (of the village) after their deliberation in the (hall) Tiruchchitrakūḍam, exempting from tax six mā of land endowed (to the temple) by Māppāni Kāri Nakkaṉ of Valavūr, a resident of the village, for the daily feeding of a Brāhmaṇa versed in the Vēdas in the feeding house attached to the temple of Tiruveṟumbiyūr-Āḻvār on the hill, in consideration of a lump-sum received by them from the donor as iṟai-dravyam. This donor has been mentioned in No. 51 above. Possible equivalents of the date given here are discussed by Swamikannu Pillai in the M.E.R. for 1915, page 72, on the assumption that the record was one of Āditya I. This may also, like No. 138, be assignable to Gaṇḍarāditya or Sundara-Chōḷa.

Summary: The title ‘Āvaniāḷappiṟandāṉ’ is added in the present inscription dated in the 4th year, to the name Sakalabhuvanachakravarttigaḷ Kōpperuñjiṅga. The inscription registers a gift of 30 cows for a perpetual lamp in the temple of Tiruppaṉṟikuṉṟu-Emberumāṉ by Iḷaiyaperumāḷ Vattarāyar son of Tavañcheydāṉ Vattarāyaṉ of Karuvili.
The astronomical details given in the record correspond to A.D. 1246, August 26, Sunday; ·53; the nakshatra Tiruvōṇam had, however, ended the previous day and ‘Śravishṭhā’ was current till ·75 on this day.

Summary: King: Jaṭilavarman Tribhuvanachakravartin Parākrama Pāṇḍyadēva Year 39+8 Mithuna 23; ba. di. 10 Wednesday Śōdi = 1461 A.D. June 3.
This inscription records the construction of the Viśvanātha temple and its complexes, such as garbhagṛiha, ardhamaṇḍapā, iḍai-nāḻigai and sōpānam i.e. from bottom to top (upānādi-stūpi-pariyaṉtham), at Teṉkāśi (Dakshiṇa-kāśi) north of Chitra-nadi in Teṉvāri-nāḍu. Besides it also records the usual festivals, the commencement of the construction of the above complexes and the daily offerings to be made in the temple.
This record also fixes certain rates and collection of taxes on various services such as ferry-service, plough-service, and taxes from the graded lands at the rate of half a koṭṭai per mā for crop, salt quarters, road taxes levied at the rate of one mā and kāṇi per annum and taxes on cattle, commencing from the 30th year. The amount thus accrued from the above collections were added to the deposit (mudal) for the up keep of the temple.
One Kiḍārattūr-uḍaiyāṉ, figures as the signatory of this record.

It records the provision made by the Perunagarattār (merchant community) of Kumaramāttāṇḍapuram in Tiraimūr-nāḍu for the renovation of the surrounding hall (tiruchchuṟṟālai) and the gōpura in a (Jaina) temple called the Milāḍuḍaiyār-paḷḷi. Kumaramārttāṇḍa seems to have been a surname of the Pallava king Nandivarman III (No. 199 of 1907).

Summary: This inscription, dated in the 4th year, records the gift of a cow to the temple of Āṭkoṇḍadēva at Tiruveṇṇainallūr, a brahmadēya in Tirumuṉaippāḍi Tiruveṇṇainallūrnāḍu, a subdivision of Rājarāja-vaḷanāḍu, by Suppiramaṇṇiyaṉ, son of Tirumaḻapāḍi, an agambaḍiyār living at Araśūr. Araśūr may be identified with the village of the same name in the Tirukkoyilur taluk.

The village Avviyūr may be identified with Āviyūr in the Gingee taluk of the South Arcot district.

It states that Aṇiyaṉ Mūvēndaraiyaṉ from whom Kuṉṟameḍuttāṉ Vāṇādhirājaṉ had purchased lands in Kuḷattūr alias Śōḻagaṅganallūr, Koṟṟavilli and Teṉṉavamahādēvī, for providing worship and offerings to the god Subrahmaṇya-Piḷḷaiyār set up in the temple of Aḻagiya-Nāyaṉār at Tiruvāmāttūr by Uḍaiyāṉ Vairādhirājaṉ, remitted certain taxes such as pāḍi-kāval, kāśāyam etc., for the welfare of Kōpperuñjiṅga (dēvar).
Kuḷattūr and Teṉṉavamahādēvī may be identified with the villages of the same name in the Villupuram taluk. Koṟṟavilli seems to have changed its name and is not easily identifiable.

Summary: This is evidently an inscription of Rājarāja I which registers in detail the stock of several gifts made to the temple at different times. These comprised coppervessels for the sacred bath of the deity presented in the 4th year of Uttama-Chōḷa by queen-mother Parāntakaṉ (or Śembiyaṉ)-Mādēviyār; a gold koḷgai set with gems presented by her in the 6th year of the same king; a golden pot for pinnacle over the temple presented by her in the 3rd year of Rājakēsarivarman, evidently Rājarāja I; another set of rich presents made in the same year by the same lady, consisting of a golden image of Chandraśēkharadēva with a gold-plated copper pedestal and silver aureola and ornaments set with gems, besides a silver plate for offerings to the same deity; a silver pot and some gold ornaments by Śōrabbaiyār Tribhuvanamādēviyār, the queen of Uttama-Chōḷa presented in the same year, and a gold flower by the same queen presented in that year in lieu of land gift for the Śivaśrāddha of her husband; some gold ornaments made with the money presented to the temple by Parakēsarivarman (evidently Uttama-Chōḷa himself) in his 10th and 11th years; a gold plate (paṭṭam) presented in the 4th year of Uttama-Chōḷa by Kōyiṟpiḷḷaiyār to the god, 2 lamp-stands by Parāntakaṉ-Mādēvi and 2 by Madhurāntaka (king); lastly 400 kāśu given by Parāntakaṉ-Mādēvi in the 2nd year of (her husband) Gaṇḍarādityadēva alias Mummuḍi-Chōḷadēva towards the Saṅkrānti bath of the deity every month and which was now, in the 6th year of Rājakēsarivarman, converted into a land-endowment by the assembly of Nāṅgūr. At the end is recorded another gift of 125 kaḻañju presented by the same queen for feeding a Brahman in the temple for the merit of her servant (aḍiyāḷ) Ilaichchiyaṉ Maḻapāḍi, for which the same assembly sold a land to her for endowment.
