35 <p>This inscription is dated in the 12th year of the reign of <hi rend="bold">Kulōttuṅga-Chōḷadēva</hi> III.<note>See page 43 above.</note> on a week-day which, according to Professor Kielhorn's calculation,<note><hi rend="italic">Ep. Ind</hi>. Vol. IV. p. 220.</note> corresponds to Monday, the 4th December A.D. 1189. It records that a military officer purchased 600 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of land near the village and assigned them to the temple, with the condition that the produce of the land should be applied for providing offerings of boiled rice to the god.</p>

85 <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 12th year (<hi rend="italic">of the reign</hi>) of the emperor of the three worlds, <hi rend="bold">Śrī-Kulōttuṅga-Śōḻadēva</hi>, who was pleased to take <hi rend="bold">Madurai, Īḻam</hi>, and the crowned head of the <hi rend="bold">Pāṇḍya</hi>,—on the day of <hi rend="italic">Chitrā</hi>, which corresponded to a Monday and to the ninth <hi rend="italic">tithi</hi> of the second fortnight of the month of <hi rend="italic">Dhanus</hi>.</p>

The writing of us, the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Maṇimaṅgalam</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Pāṇḍiyaṉaiirumaḍi-veṉ-kaṇḍa-Śōḻa-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, in <hi rend="bold">Kuṉṟattūr-nāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a subdivision</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Kulōttuṅga-Śōḻa-vaḷanāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a district</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Jayaṅkoṇḍa-Śōḻa-maṇḍalam</hi>.</p>

· <p>(L. 4.) With the knowledge of <hi rend="bold">Kārāmbichcheṭṭu Kēśava-Bhaṭṭaṉ</hi>, the manager of the temple of <hi rend="bold">Vaṇḍuvarāpati-Emberumāṉ</hi> in our village, and of <hi rend="bold">Araṭṭamukkidāsaṉ</hi>, the overseer of the <hi rend="italic">Śrī-Vaishṇavas</hi>.</p>

In order that (<hi rend="italic">the god</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Tiruvāykkulattu Emberumāṉ</hi> of this temple might receive (<hi rend="italic">every day</hi>) an offering of four <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of boiled rice, <hi rend="bold">Kaṇṇappaṉ Tūśi-Ādināyagaṉ</hi><note><hi rend="italic">I.e.</hi> ‘the chief leader of the van-guard.’</note> <hi rend="bold">[Nī]la[ga]ṅgaraiyaṉ Vaṉṉiyanāyaṉ</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Uttamanidi-Kaṇṇappaṉ</hi>, of <hi rend="bold">Tiruchchuram</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kīḻ-Māṅgāṭṭu-nāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a subdivision</hi>) of the same district and the same <hi rend="italic">maṇḍalam</hi>, purchased for money from the arbitrator <hi rend="bold">Maṇimaṅgalam-uḍaiyāṉ Vāṉavāriśaṉ, Mahājanapriyaṉ</hi> and <hi rend="bold">Maṇimaṅgalam-uḍaiyāṉ Śrīrāmadēvaṉ</hi> 600 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of land, (called) <hi rend="italic">Uṟappōndāṉ, alias Alaṅkārapaṭṭi,</hi><note><hi rend="italic">I.e.</hi> ‘the <hi rend="italic">paṭṭi</hi> of Uṟappōndāṉ, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Alaṅkāraṉ.’ On <hi rend="italic">paṭṭi</hi> see above, Vol. II. p. 359, note 12.
