1. Il est difficile de savoir si narendra- (pāda B) est un biruda de Mahendravarman I, dont ce serait alors la seule occurrence. Il faut l’interpréter comme tel si on veut identifier dans cet hémistiche une première antanaclase (la seconde reposant sur śatrumalla-, à la fois nom de Śiva et biruda bien connu de Mahendravarman I). La traduction par « souverain » permet de reproduire tant bien que mal cette figure.
2. Le mot daṇḍa- peut avoir une acception plus large, et cette traduction est évidemment réductrice. Par ailleurs, le composé peut recevoir une autre interprétation : « devant qui les rois sont prosternés comme des bâtons » (P.S. Filliozat 1984, p. 105).
