<p>The inscription apparently functioned as indicator of alignment of the face of the element on which it is inscribed with the face of the <foreign>mukhaliṅga</foreign>. See also the identical or analogous labels <ref target="DHARMA_INSCIC00248.xml">C. 248</ref>, <ref target="DHARMA_INSCIC00250.xml">C. 250</ref> and <ref target="DHARMA_INSCIC00251.xml">C. 251</ref>, and on the compostion of the pedestal see <bibl><ptr target="bib:Parmentier1904_02"/></bibl>, who did not, however, mention the presence of such label inscriptions.</p>

Commentary

See also the identical or analogous labels C. 248, C. 250 and C. 251, and on the compostion of the pedestal see Parmentier 1904, who did not, however, mention the presence of such label inscriptions.
