<p>The inscription apparently functioned as indicator of orientation of the face of the element on which it is inscribed. See also the analogous labels <ref target="DHARMA_INSCIC00248.xml">C. 248</ref>, <ref target="DHARMA_INSCIC00249.xml">C. 249</ref> and <ref target="DHARMA_INSCIC00250.xml">C. 250</ref>, and on the compostion of the pedestal see <bibl><ptr target="bib:Parmentier1904_02"/></bibl>, who did not, however, mention the presence of such label inscriptions.</p>

Commentary
