Fleet notes that the correct reading is sphaṭa (snake hood), not sphuṭa as read by Hultzsch. Also, Fleet translates vikaṭā as "an attendant female divinity" and notes that the image referred to is no longer in the cave, but a comparable image of Pārśva is found in the Jaina cave of Bādāmi, decorated with a snake hood and accompanied by female divinity (also snake-hooded). Garde in ARADGW_1923-24:10-11 thinks there is no female attendant; the meaning is "mighty and fierce on account of the hoods of a snake," which is what we have in the cave without hypothesising a lost image.
