Apparatus

⟨1⟩ Ai(ṅ)Ai(ṅ) makes sense with kaḻañcu (beginning of line 4 of DHARMA_INSKotumpalur00008): aiṅ-kaḻañcu, "five kaḻañcus".

⟨2⟩ (koṇṭāṭai/mārāṉ pāṇṭa)None of these alternative readings makes sense in continuity with pakal no¡ṉ!⟨n⟩t (end of line 5 of Kotumpalur 8), where one expects nontā viḷakku.⟨2⟩ Eri(vva/ppa)Erippa makes sense with tāka (beginning of line 5 of Kotumpalur 8): erippatāka, "so as to burn" (a lamp).

Commentary

Possibly a fragment to be read with another preserved fragment at the site. It could give the beginning of lines 4-6 of Kotumpalur 8, which is on the block continuous to the right, although a continuous reading is not warranted, which, however, could be explained if Kotumpalur 8 and the present inscription are two block fragments of an inscription, of which a third fragment block is lost.
