· <p n="1">Hail! Prosperity! In the fourth year <supplied reason="subaudible">of the reign</supplied> of king Parakesarivarman who deprived Vīra-Pāṇḍya of <supplied reason="subaudible">his</supplied> head,—Cēṉai, <supplied reason="subaudible">who was</supplied> the son of the cultivator <supplied reason="subaudible">Veḷḷāḷaṉ</supplied> Ci<supplied reason="undefined">kk</supplied>ār-uṭaiyāṉ Puliyaṉ <supplied reason="subaudible">and</supplied> who resided at Śivacūḷāmaṇimaṅgala, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Śrī-Vikramābharaṇa-caturvedimaṅgala, <supplied reason="subaudible">a village</supplied> in its own subdivision of Kāliyūr-kōṭṭam, assigned <supplied reason="subaudible">one</supplied> <foreign>paṭṭi</foreign> of land in the neighbourhood, to last as long as the moon and the sun, for his own merit <supplied reason="subaudible">and</supplied> for the meritorious purpose of supplying to the <foreign>brahmasthāna</foreign> in this village water during six months and fire-pans <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>agniṣṭhā</foreign></supplied> during six months and of constructing a water-lever in front of the cistern at the <foreign>maṇḍapa</foreign>.<note><foreign>maṇṭakam</foreign> is a Tamil corruption of <foreign>maṇṭapam</foreign>. It occurs in No. 7, line 2, and three times in the Kūram plates (Vol. I. No. 151, text lines 61 and 74).</note></p>

· <p n="3">The great men who manage the affairs of the village in each year, shall supervise this charity. Those who cause obstruction to this, shall incur <supplied reason="subaudible">all</supplied> the sins committed between the Gaṅgā and Kanyā.<note>Kanyā is the same as Kanyākumāri or, more commonly, Kumari, the Tamil name of Cape Comorin.</note> Under these conditions, I, Cēṉai, assigned <supplied reason="subaudible">the land</supplied>. He who obstructs this, shall be liable to pay a fine of twenty-five <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>s of gold.</p>
