Final N is a simplified and reduced na-shape (resembling an Omega) with a long and straight vertical tail, e.g. l13 māsāN. Final T in l27 kumāravatT|, I have no facsimile of that page. Also in l29 anīneśaT, where it is a slightly reduced ta without a headmark, with a long and straight upward tail.</p>
· <p>Original punctuation marks are full-height plain verticals. For the punctuation mark at the end of v4 in line 20, Kielhorn prints a double daṇḍa, while Sewell prints a hyphen. I do not have a facsimile for this page. For the marks after v5c, v5d, v7d and after ājñāpayati in l24, both Kielhorn and Sewell print a double daṇḍa. The double punctuation marks on 3r that I can verify are plain double verticals, e.g. l28 matiṁ||; I assume the others have the same appearance.</p>
60 <p>Other palaeographic observations. Anusvāra is normally above the character to which it belongs. It is pushed to the right if the character in question has the vocalisation i, and occasionally also without any apparent cause. In l28 senanyaṁ| and matiṁ||, the anusvāra is over the punctuation mark. Many consonants are doubled after anusvāra, e.g. l8, maṁggi, l8, paṁcca- and even l16 vatsarāṇāṁ nnija; but this is not universal.

Satyāśraya Vallabha <supplied reason="explanation">Pulakeśin II</supplied> was eager to adorn the lineage of the majestic Calukyas—who are of the Mānavya <foreign>gotra</foreign> which is praised by the entire world, who are sons of Hārīti, who attained kingship by the grace of Kauśikī’s boon, who are protected by the band of Mothers, who were deliberately appointed <supplied reason="explanation">to kingship</supplied> by Lord Mahāsena, to whom enemy territories instantaneously submit at the <supplied reason="subaudible">mere</supplied> sight of the superior Boar emblem they have acquired by the grace of the divine Nārāyaṇa, and whose bodies have been hallowed through washing in the purificatory ablutions <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>avabhr̥tha</foreign></supplied> of the Aśvamedha sacrifice. His brother Kubja Viṣṇuvardhana <supplied reason="subaudible">reigned</supplied> for eighteen years. His son Jayasiṁha Vallabha <supplied reason="explanation">I</supplied>, for thirty-three years. His brother Indrarāja’s <supplied reason="explanation">Indra Bhaṭṭāraka’s</supplied> son Viṣṇurāja <supplied reason="explanation">Viṣṇuvardhana II</supplied>, for nine. His son Maṅgi Yuvarāja, for twenty-five. His son Jayasiṁha <supplied reason="explanation">II</supplied>, for thirteen. His younger brother by a different mother, Kokkili, for six months. After dethroning him, his eldest brother Viṣṇuvardhana <supplied reason="explanation">III</supplied>, for thirty-seven. His son Vijayāditya <supplied reason="explanation">I</supplied> Bhaṭṭāraka, for eighteen. His son Viṣṇuvardhana <supplied reason="explanation">IV</supplied>, for thirty-six. His son Vijayāditya <supplied reason="explanation">II</supplied> who commissioned a hundred and eight temples of Narendreśvara, for forty. ·<p rend="stanza" n="1"><supplied reason="subaudible">Born</supplied> from his younger brother the prince <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yuvarāja</foreign></supplied> named Vikramāditya, the peerless <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nirupama</foreign></supplied> King <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nr̥pa</foreign></supplied> Bhīma—a wildfire for whom enemy hosts were but fluff—became for thirty years the ruler, the fame of the host of whose innate virtues pervaded the circle of the compass.</p>
245<p rend="stanza" n="2">His son Vijayāditya <supplied reason="explanation">IV</supplied> protected the country of Veṅgī, together with the three Kaliṅgas and the forests, for six months, and then went to heaven.</p>
·<p rend="stanza" n="3">To him was born a son capable of bearing the burden of the earth: King <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>mahīpāla</foreign></supplied> Ammarāja, who protected the entire surface of the earth.</p>
·<p rend="stanza" n="4">The circle <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>maṇḍala</foreign></supplied> of kings has taken refuge in the shade of his lotus feet. His bow, which has castigated his enemies, is praised in the three worlds.</p>
·<p rend="stanza" n="5">Even <foreign>vidyādhara</foreign> ladies sing, <supplied reason="subaudible">accompanied</supplied> by their lutes <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vīṇā</foreign></supplied>, of the glory of him whose enemies have perished, <supplied reason="subaudible">this glory</supplied> which, white as jasmine or the moon, brightens the surface of <supplied reason="explanation">all</supplied> the earth.</p>
·<p n="22-24">that shelter of all the world <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>sarva-lokāśraya</foreign></supplied>, His Majesty Viṣṇuvardhana <supplied reason="explanation">VI, i.e. Amma I</supplied>, convokes and commands all householders <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kuṭumbin</foreign></supplied>—including foremost the territorial overseers <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rāṣṭrakūṭa</foreign></supplied>—who reside in Pennātavāḍi district <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>viṣaya</foreign></supplied> as follows:</p>

·<p rend="stanza" n="6">King <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhūpāla</foreign></supplied> Cālukya-Bhīma had a wet nurse <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>dhātrī</foreign></supplied> of predominantly <foreign>kṣatriya</foreign> stock, who was like another Earth <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>dhātrī</foreign></supplied> in patience, known as Nāgipoṭi.</p>
·<p rend="stanza" n="7">She had a daughter like Ambikā <supplied reason="explanation">Pārvatī</supplied>, named Gāmakāmbā, placed on a level with King Bhīma as she drank her mother’s breast-milk.</p>
·<p rend="stanza" n="8">She gave birth to a boy <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kumāra</foreign></supplied> equipped with power as Kumāra <seg rend="pun">is equipped with a spear</seg>, <supplied reason="subaudible">who was to become</supplied> King Bhīma’s general, the highly intelligent Mahākāla.</p>

255<p rend="stanza" n="9">solidly taking the van for his lord, annihilated an enemy army in pitched battle fiery with <supplied reason="explanation">sparks struck by</supplied> the clash of weapon on weapon.</p>
·<p n="30-31">Moreover, he is Kāma in physical beauty, Yama in wrath, Arjuna in valour and Śūdraka in daring deeds.</p>
·<p n="31-34">To him we <supplied reason="explanation">Amma I</supplied> have granted the village named Drujjūru, converted into a rent-free holding <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>mānya</foreign></supplied> by a remission of all taxes. Its boundaries <supplied reason="explanation">are as follows</supplied>. To the east, the border is none other than the border of Tāḻugummi. To the south, the border is none other than the border of Goṭṭiprolu. To the west, the border is none other than the border of Malkaporamu. To the north, the border is none other than the border of Adupu. Let no obstacle be posed <supplied reason="explanation">to his enjoyment of his rights</supplied> over it. So too Vyāsa has said:</p>
·<p rend="stanza" n="10">Many <supplied reason="explanation">kings</supplied> have granted land, and many have preserved it <supplied reason="explanation">as formerly granted</supplied>. Whosoever at any time owns the land, the fruit <seg rend="pun">reward <supplied reason="explanation">accrued of granting it</supplied></seg> belongs to him at that time.</p>
