Śrī Śailamuni

Commentary

The name was found on “a beam in the verandah of the seventh cave temple at Bhairavakoṇḍa” (Ramayya Pantulu 1948, p. 19). The nature of the name (≈ "holy man of the mountain (perh. Himalaya)" may rather point towards a high ranking religious person who visited the place than towards a craftsman who worked there; he might, however, have been a donor as well.

Bibliography

The inscription was noted in A. R. No. 278 of 1922 and was first edited by J. Ramayya Pantulu with few metadata and without picture (1948, p. 19, № 53).
