Commentary

Ramachandran 1954 comments thus: “This was perhaps the name of the donor of the votive image of the Buddha.” It is possibly a designation of the Buddha.

The Śaiva saint Campantar is known in epigraphical sources as āḷ-uṭaiya piḷḷaiyār.
