35 <p>This is a record of the time of <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman Uttama-Chōḷa</hi> and registers a grant of land to <hi rend="bold">Dayāparappērambalam</hi> built in the temple (?) at <hi rend="bold">Tiruppāttuṟai</hi>. The assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttamaśīli-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, <hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, the present Uttamaśīli village in the Trichinopoly district, received the gift and made it taxfree. Dayāparappērambalam herein mentioned was probably the name of a hall where the village assembly used to meet.</p>

· <p>Hail ! Prosperity ! In the . . . . year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> the glorious <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi> . . . . . . the glorious <hi rend="bold">Uttamaśīlichaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> (<hi rend="italic">which was a) brahmadēya</hi> . . . . . . <hi rend="bold">Vāsudēvaṉ</hi> and . . . . . . . the land purchased by these . . . .. . Having received (<hi rend="italic">this</hi>) one <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> and a half <hi rend="italic">śēy</hi> of land which they had purchased (<hi rend="italic">and which was</hi>) on the western side . . . . . the fifth <hi rend="italic">pāḍagam</hi> belonging to <hi rend="bold">Śandiraṉ Vishṇubhaṭṭaṉ</hi> and his group of <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi>-owners,—as an <hi rend="italic">ambalappuṟam</hi> (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, gift for the maintenance of an <hi rend="italic">ambalam</hi>) to the (<hi rend="italic">hall called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Dayāparappērambalam</hi> which they had built . . . in this village; and having received on hand the 5 five <hi rend="italic">kāśu</hi> of <hi rend="italic">taṭṭiṟai (derived</hi>) from this half <hi rend="italic">kāṇi</hi> and (<hi rend="italic">one) mundirigai</hi> of assessed land of the 8th <hi rend="italic">taram</hi> (class),—ordered the said (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) of one <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> and a half <hi rend="italic">śēy</hi> to be tax-free, as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">endure</hi>); caused the deduction of taxes (<hi rend="italic">to be entered</hi>) in the land register (<hi rend="italic">nilamudal ?</hi>) and the tax register (<hi rend="italic">pottagam</hi>) and had (<hi rend="italic">the transaction</hi>) engraved on stone on the sacred central shrine (<hi rend="italic">śrīvimāna</hi>) of (<hi rend="italic">the temple at</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Tiruppāttuṟai</hi>. Since this land is not liable to pay <hi rend="italic">śeṉṉīrveṭṭi</hi> and all other taxes, if (<hi rend="italic">any</hi>) tax is shown (<hi rend="italic">against it), (the said persons</hi>) shall pay a fine of 50 <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold which the assembly would decide for being credited to the sacred feet (<hi rend="italic">of the king</hi>). Even after paying the gold demanded in full (<hi rend="italic">maṟaiyili</hi>), still we (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly shall guard this land against (<hi rend="italic">payment of</hi>) taxes.</p>
