<p>Besides the inscription published under No. 55, above, this temple bears another much defaced inscription, which is engraved on the east wall and consists of seven lines. The date is the <hi rend="italic">Vishu</hi> year, which was current after the expiration of the Śaka year 1443. According to the third and fourth lines, the inscription seems to have recorded a grant, which <hi rend="bold">Tirumalai-nāyaka</hi> made to the temple of <hi rend="bold">Virūpāksha-nāyaṉār</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Veppambaṭṭu</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Āndi-nāḍu</hi>; line 4 also mentions <hi rend="bold">Paḍaivīḍu</hi>.<note>See page 83, above.</note> The passage alluded to runs as follows:</p>
