Summary: Krishnamacharlu and Laksminarayan Rao 1952 (p. 142): “In characters of the 9th century A.D. Engraved above the figure of a warrior represented with a shield in the left hand and a scimitar in the right. Records the death of Kaṇavayaṉ, the disciple of the preceptor (Ācāṉ) Teṉṉavaṉ, when Veṅmaṇi was destroyed in the time of Valluvik-Kaṅkaraiyar.” Krishnamacharlu and Laksminarayan Rao 1952 (p. 272): “An inscription of the 9th century AD. from Veṇmaṇi, North Arcot District, engraved over the figure of a warrior holding a child1 in the left hand and a scimitar in the right, mentions the destruction of the village in the time of Vallivik-Kaṅkaraiyar who was probably a Gaṅga chieftain ruling the region (No. 116 of 1941-42). It may be observed that a verse inscription (13th century A.D.) from Tiruvaṇṇāmalai in the same district (No. 507 of 1902) mentionns the Bāṇa chief Poṉparappiṉāṉ alias Makataipperumāḷ as having had an engagement at Veṇmaṇippāṭi evidently Veṇmaṇi of the above record.”
