Commentary

PPPB I, 155: ḅaṁḥ sguḥ sa paṁ kdiḥ

Mya: ḅamḥ sgaḥ s?a tma -- kdiḥ

Luce refers to De Beylié 1907a, pl. V (3); 246 fig. 199. The latter is an error for 1907b: 246 fig. 199. Luce was wrong in citing these photos published by De Beylié, for De Beylié does not say that they show the obverse of the inscribed reverse copied in his (1907a) fig. 62. Comparing the other photos available, it seems obvious that de Beylié's V (3) and 62 have no connection with each other. Delphine Desoutter has shown us three other specimens of tablets made from the same mold.

Bibliography

Beylié1907a gives an eye drawing of the inscription, labeling the Pyu as “caracteres Tibetains” (with provenence given as “Bobogyi” rather than Lémyethna). ASI cites De Beylié but still regards it as an “unknown script”. A reading in Burmese script can be found in Mya1961a. Luce 1985, pp. I, 155, cites the earlier authors and provides a revised reading. Re-edited here from photographs.
