EIAD 478. from the Amaravati stūpa

Version: (6b33b5d), last modified (6b33b5d).

Edition

⟨1⟩ kumārasa A(v)atakamasa tha[bho]

⟨2⟩ maghavadatena nāma kar(i)[to]

Apparatus

⟨1⟩ A(v)atakamasaThe vertical of what we read as ma is damaged and might be the product of an attempt to correct it to ca. However, it is possible to make sense of Avatakama, as corresponding to Skt. avāptakāma.

⟨2⟩ nāmaomitted Gh. — ⟨2⟩ kar(i)[to]kara GhGh suggests to reconstruct kara[pito], but we would rather expect the second line to record the name of the artisan who made the pillar. The i in the last preserved syllable is admittedly very faint and our reading is tentative.

Translation

Pillar of the kumāra Avattakāma, made by Maghavādatta.
