SII 14.40: original edition by A. S. Ramanatha Ayyar – No. 40. (A.R. No. 12 of 1929.) DAḶAPATISAMUDRAM, NANGUNERI TALUK, TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT. ON A SLAB LYING IN A FIELD IN THE PAṞACHCHĒRI OF THE VILLAGE.

Summary: This long inscription in Vaṭṭeḻuttu characters is dated in the 6th year opposite to the 35th year of the reign of king Māṟāñjaḍaiyaṉ who appears to be identical with the king figuring in No. 37 above from Māṉūr, dated in the 35th year and 469th day. The record consists of two separate endowments made by a certain Vēḷāṉ of Irambāḍu in Karaikāṉa-nāḍu. One of them was a gift of 50 sheep to maintain a lamp in the resthouse called Rājakka ttaṇṇīr pperumbandal erected by him at Perumbaḻañji in Nāṭṭāṟṟuppōkku while a gift of land and a well were also made for it. The other gift of sheep was for maintaining a lamp in another rest-house named Muṉṉūṟṟuvapperumbandal instituted by him in the same village; and a gift of land for the care-taker who supplied water to this water-shed was also made. The two rest-houses were apparently erected, one in the name of ‘Rājakkar’ of Tirukkōṭṭāṟu and the other in the name of the Kōyiṟpiḷḷaigaḷ Muṉṉūṟṟuvar whose constitution is not clear. These charities were left under the protection of the Nāyakaṉmār ruling the district.
