<p>This is dated in the <hi rend="bold">2nd year</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Nandippōttaraiyar</hi> and records the construction of the <hi rend="italic">mukha-maṇḍapa</hi> by <hi rend="bold">Śelvavāṇarayaṉ,</hi> son of Amaṉi-Gaṅgaraiyar, who was ruling over Vittūr. It may be noted that Paḷḷikoṇḍa was called Vichchūr<note><hi rend="italic">A.R.</hi> No. 456 of 1925. The village Tiruvāṉakkōyil in the Chingleput district was also known as Vittūr (<hi rend="italic">A.R.</hi> Nos. 284-286 of 1910).</note> in ancient times.</p>
<p>Palaeographically, the present record may be attributed to the reign of Nandivarman III. In a later record <hi rend="italic">viz.,</hi> of the 10th year of the Chōḷa Parakēsarivarman from Tiruchchattuṟai in the Tanjore district, figures a chief of Paṅgaḷanāḍu named Bhuvani-Gaṅgaraiyan.<note><hi rend="italic">Ep. Rep.</hi> for 1930-31, para 8.</note> Since Paḷḷikoṇḍa was in Paṅgaḷa-nāḍu, Amaṉi (Avani)Gaṅgaraiyar of the present inscription may have been an earlier member of the family of Paṅgaḷa-nāḍu chiefs.</p>
