35 <p>In this record we are informed that in the 12th year and the 326th day of the reign of <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> certain lands were given by queen <hi rend="bold">Tribhuvaṉa-Mahādēviyār</hi> for sounding drums at the <hi rend="italic">Śrībali</hi> ceremony and at the waking up of the images from bed (<hi rend="italic">paḷḷi-eḷuchchi</hi>) in the temple of <hi rend="bold">Śrīveli-Vishṇugṛiha</hi> which had been constructed by <hi rend="bold">Koṅgaraiyar</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>.</p>

· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 12th year and 326th day of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi>, queen, <hi rend="bold">Tribhuvana-Mahādēviyār</hi>, purchased from the ryots of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> and gave the following lands for sounding (<hi rend="italic">drums</hi>) at the <hi rend="italic">Śrībali (ceremony</hi>) to the god (<hi rend="italic">in the temple</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Śrīveli-Vishṇugṛiha</hi> which <hi rend="bold">Koṅgaraiyar</hi> had constructed in this village:—</p>

· <p>(L. 2.) 810 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) in the first <hi rend="italic">śadukkam (situated</hi>) to the west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-vadi</hi> of the fifth <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi> to the south of (<hi rend="italic">the channel called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Subrahmaṇya-vāykkāl</hi>; 120 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) of the second <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi> in the same place; 760 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) in the third <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi> in the same place; 240 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) in the fourth <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi> in the same place; 453 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) in the third <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi> of the 4th <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi> in the same place; and 112 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) in the fourth <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi> in the same place. For (<hi rend="italic">these</hi>) 2,495 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> in all, we (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, having received <hi rend="italic">pūrvāchāram</hi> from queen <hi rend="bold">Tribhuvana-Mahādēviyār</hi>, deducted the taxes as long the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">last</hi>), and ordered (<hi rend="italic">the lands</hi>) to be tax-free. In order to sound (<hi rend="italic">drums</hi>) at the three <hi rend="italic">sandhis</hi> of the day (<hi rend="italic">i.e., morning, midday</hi> and <hi rend="italic">evening</hi>) during the <hi rend="italic">Śrībali (ceremony</hi>) and at the waking up (<hi rend="italic">of the image</hi>) from bed, out of (<hi rend="italic">the income accruing from</hi>) these lands, we gave (<hi rend="italic">these lands</hi>) as <hi rend="italic">śrībalipuṟam</hi>, freed from (<hi rend="italic">the payment of</hi>) taxes and had (<hi rend="italic">this edict</hi>) engraved on stone.</p>

· <p>(L. 7.) The <hi rend="italic">śraddhāmantas</hi> shall themselves impose a fine of twenty-five <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold on each person who obstructs this charity. (<hi rend="italic">Even after</hi>) paying this fine, they shall not obstruct this charity. Those who obstruct shall incur the sins committed by sinners (<hi rend="italic">living</hi>) between <hi rend="bold">Gaṅgā</hi> (the Ganges) and <hi rend="bold">Kumari</hi> (Cape Comorin). They (<hi rend="italic">i.e., the members of the assembly</hi>) shall not show any kind of tax, <hi rend="italic">echchōṟu, veṭṭi</hi> and <hi rend="italic">amañji</hi> against these lands. We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, <hi rend="italic">thus</hi> made (<hi rend="italic">the lands</hi>) tax-free and had (<hi rend="italic">the edict</hi>) engraved on stone. I, <hi rend="bold">Śivadāsaṉ Ayyāyirattirunūṟṟuva Brahmapriyaṉ</hi>, an arbitrator (<hi rend="italic">madhyasthaṉ</hi>) of this village, and one of the (<hi rend="italic">members of the</hi>) assembly, wrote this at the command (<hi rend="italic">of the assembly</hi>). Prosperity !</p>
