35 <p>Two residents of <hi rend="bold">Talaiśayaṉapuram</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Taiyūr</hi> made a present of fifteen <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold to the image of <hi rend="bold">Maṇavāḷapperumāḷ</hi> which they had caused to be cast, for the temple of <hi rend="bold">Varāhasvāmin</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Tiruviḍavandai</hi> (the modern <hi rend="bold">Tiruvaḍandai)</hi>. The assembly of the village received the money in the 8th year of king <hi rend="bold">Rājamārāyar</hi> and agreed to pay an annual interest of 56 <hi rend="italic">kāḍi</hi> of paddy on that amount.</p>

· <p><hi rend="bold">Rājamārāyar</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi> could be no other than <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndravarman</hi>. No. <ref target="DHARMA_INSSIIv03p0i0152">152</ref> above, from <hi rend="bold">Uttaramallūr</hi>, calls the same king <hi rend="bold">Partma-Mahārāja</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>.</p>

In the 8th year (<hi rend="italic">of the reign</hi>) of king <hi rend="bold">Rājamārāyar</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">this is</hi>) the writing of us (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the assembly and the residents of <hi rend="bold">Tiruviḍavandai</hi>, a <hi rend="italic">dēvadāna</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Paḍuvūrnāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a subdivision</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Āmūr-kōṭṭam</hi>.</p>

The two (<hi rend="italic">individuals</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Vaiyyōḍu-kiḻāṉ Vaikundaḍigaḷ</hi> and his younger brother <hi rend="bold">Tāḻi Erumāṉ</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Talaiśayaṉapuram</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Taiyyūr</hi> gave . . . . . . of gold, to the image of <hi rend="bold">Maṇavāḷapperumāḷ</hi> which both of them had caused to be cast<note>The use of the verb <hi rend="italic">aṭṭuvitta</hi> may imply that the image of Maṇavāḷapperumāḷ given to the temple was a metallic one.</note> for (<hi rend="italic">the temple of</hi>) the glorious <hi rend="bold">Varāhasvāmin</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Tiruviḍavandai</hi>. We (<hi rend="italic">the assembly and the residents</hi>) have received this fifteen <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold; and in payment of interest on this gold, we agree to measure out by the eight-<hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> measure (<hi rend="italic">kāl</hi>) in the months of Paṅguṉi and Śittirai, fifty-six <hi rend="italic">kāḍi</hi> of well-winnowed <hi rend="italic">kuṭṭai</hi>-paddy free from moisture and chaff, in accordance (<hi rend="italic">with the stipulation</hi>) that this (<hi rend="italic">quantity</hi>) of paddy is to be measured every year as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">last</hi>), at (<hi rend="italic">the rate of</hi>) five <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> every day. For each year of default we admit (<hi rend="italic">the default ?</hi>) and agree to measure out the fifty-six <hi rend="italic">kāḍi</hi> of <hi rend="italic">kuṭṭai</hi>-paddy (<hi rend="italic">of that year) (on some future occasion</hi>).</p>

· <p>(L. 7.) If this be violated (<hi rend="italic">we</hi>) agree to pay as fine one-eighth <hi rend="italic">poṉ</hi> daily, to the king demanding it, for being credited to the court of justice. (<hi rend="italic">Even</hi>) after paying the fine this paddy shall be measured out without failure. Those who raise (<hi rend="italic">any</hi>) objection to this shall incur<note>The word <foreign>koḷvār</foreign> in the text is unnecessary.</note> the sins committed by the sinners between <hi rend="bold">Gaṅgā</hi> and <hi rend="bold">Kumari</hi>. May the sacred feet of those who protect this charity rest on my head. We, the two divisions (<hi rend="italic">viz.,</hi>) the assembly (<hi rend="italic">sabhaiyōm</hi>) and the residents (<hi rend="italic">ūrōm</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Tiruviḍavandai</hi> mentioned above gave this grant with our united consent.</p>
