35 <p>This is an unfinished inscription, dated in the 14th year of <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>. It registers a grant of land, by <hi rend="bold">Śembiyaṉ Irukkuvēḷ</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Pūdi Parāntakaṉ</hi>, to the temple at <hi rend="bold">Anduvanallūr Tiruvālanduṟai</hi>, which he had himself built. The donor has been identified by the late Rai Bahadur Venkayya, with <hi rend="bold">Parāntakavarman</hi> the son of the <hi rend="bold">Koḍumbāḷūr</hi> chief <hi rend="bold">Vikramakēsarin</hi>. Consequently king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> may be identified with <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi>.<note><hi rend="italic">Madras Epigraphical Report</hi> for 1908, page 83, paragraphs 88 and 91.</note> </p>

· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! Obeisance to Śiva ! In the 14th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>, on the day when <hi rend="bold">Śembiyaṉ Irukkuvēḷ</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Pūdi Parāntakaṉ</hi>, having constructed a stone temple to the god (<hi rend="italic">paramēśvara</hi>) at <hi rend="bold">Anduvanallūr-Tiruvālanduṟai</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kiḷiyūr-nāḍu</hi>, sprinkled (<hi rend="italic">it</hi>) with water (<hi rend="italic">i.e., consecrated it), (he</hi>) gave as <hi rend="italic">dēvadānam</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Muḷḷikkuṟumbu</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Uṟaiyūrkūṟṟam</hi> in the (<hi rend="italic">plot of land measuring</hi>) 8 1/2 (<hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>), the village (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, land)<note><hi rend="italic">Ūr</hi> is often used in inscriptions for land.</note> 7 1/2 (<hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>) which was the remainder (<hi rend="italic">left</hi>) after deducting the (<hi rend="italic">one) vēli</hi> of old <hi rend="italic">dēvadāna (land</hi>) of the god. From these 7 1/2 (<hi rend="italic">vēli of land</hi>) the (<hi rend="italic">following</hi>) arrangement (<hi rend="italic">nivanda</hi>) was made for temple expenses:—</p>

One (<hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>) and a quarter and half <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> for (<hi rend="italic">worship in</hi>) the temple (<hi rend="italic">śeṉṉaḍai</hi>); two <hi rend="italic">vēli</hi> of land for eight sacred perpetual lamps; (<hi rend="italic">one) vēli</hi> for four <hi rend="italic">māṇis</hi><note><hi rend="italic">I.e.</hi>, Brahmachārins who do service in the temple.</note> ; ten (<hi rend="italic">mā</hi>) for two conch (<hi rend="italic">blowers</hi>); ten (<hi rend="italic">mā</hi>) for two trumpet (<hi rend="italic">blowers</hi>); three <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> and a half for one (<hi rend="italic">who beats the</hi>) gong; a quarter (<hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>) for two sacred flower-garlands; seven <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> and a half, for three coatings (<hi rend="italic">of the god) (with sandal-paste</hi>); three quarter (<hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>) of land for 3 <hi rend="italic">uḻakku</hi> of ghee daily at the rate of (<hi rend="italic">one) uḻakku</hi> each time; a quarter (<hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>) for (<hi rend="italic">sounding</hi>) one <hi rend="italic">karaḍigai</hi>; . . . . . for [singing] the <hi rend="italic">tiruppadiyam</hi>.</p>
