35 <p>This is a record of <hi rend="bold">Parāntaka</hi> I. of his 30th year, which mentions a grant by prince (<hi rend="italic">piḷḷaiyār</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Arindigai</hi> or <hi rend="bold">Arindigai-Perumāṉār</hi>, one of the sons of <hi rend="bold">Śōḻa-Perumāṉaḍigaḷ</hi> (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, Parāntaka I.). The <hi rend="bold">Tiruvālaṅgāḍu</hi> plates call this prince <hi rend="bold">Arindama</hi> and elsewhere we find the forms <hi rend="bold">Ariñjigai, Ariṁjaya</hi>, and <hi rend="bold">Arikulakēsariyār</hi>. The term <hi rend="italic">nishka</hi> which occurs in the Sanskrit portion of the grant corresponds to <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of the Tamil portion, as in No. <ref target="DHARMA_INSSIIv03p0i0103.xml">103</ref> above. According to Monier Williams' <hi rend="italic">Sanskrit-English Dictionary, nishka</hi> is a coin varying in value at different times; but <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> in Tamil has invariably represented a particular weight of gold bullion (= about 80 grains).</p>
