35 <p>This inscription (No. 182 of 1901) is engraved on three walls of the <hi rend="bold">Saundararāja-Perumāḷ</hi> temple at <hi rend="bold">Sōmaṅgalam</hi>,<note>No. 311 on the <hi rend="italic">Madras Survey Map</hi> of the Conjeeveram tāluka.</note> a village north of Maṇimaṅgalam in the Chingleput district. The ancient name of the temple was <hi rend="bold">Chitrakūṭa</hi> (l. 3). Like Maṇimaṅgalam,<note>See above, p. 49 and notes 6 and 7.</note> Sōmaṅgalam belonged to <hi rend="bold">Māgaṇūr-nāḍu</hi>, a subdivision of the district of <hi rend="bold">Śēṅgāṭṭukōṭṭam</hi> (l. 2 f.).</p>

· <p>The inscription is dated in the 3rd year of <hi rend="bold">Rājēndra-Chōḷa</hi> II. The introduction agrees with that of the inscriptions of his 2nd year (Nos. <ref target="DHARMA_INSSIIv03p0i0064">64</ref> to <ref target="DHARMA_INSSIIv03p0i0066">69</ref> above), but adds a reference to his queen, without mentioning her name.</p>

Prosperity ! . . . . . . . . . . .<note>The historical introduction of this inscription is the same as in No. <ref target="DHARMA_INSSIIv03p0i0064">64</ref>.</note> In the 3rd year (<hi rend="italic">of the reign</hi>) of king <hi rend="bold">Rājakēsarivarman</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> the lord <hi rend="bold">Śrī-Rājēndra-Śōḻadēva</hi>, who was pleased to take his seat on the throne of heroes together with (<hi rend="italic">his queen</hi>), the mistress of the whole world,—we, the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Sōmaṅgalam</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Rājaśikhāmaṇi-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, in <hi rend="bold">Māgaṇūr-nāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a subdivision</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Śēṅgāṭṭu-kōṭṭam</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a district</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Jayaṅgoṇḍa-Śōḻa-maṇḍalam</hi>, drew up the following writing on stone, to last as long as the moon, in favour of the lord of the holy <hi rend="bold">Chitrakūṭa</hi> (<hi rend="italic">temple</hi>) in our village. . . . . . . . . . .</p>
