⟨3⟩ bhagavan- • In the photo, the ring completely obscures the text before the hole, but it is probably clear in the original. There would have been at least one character here, but bha may instead be lost to damage at the end of line 2.

⟨4⟩ °dhāvabhr̥tha- • Again, text to the left of the hole is not visible, but probably clear in the original. Possibly, the preceding me may also be here instead of being lost at the end of line 3.

⟨5⟩ °(m)uditendo(r) • This segment of text is very hard to read because of glare in the closeup photo of the page. One photo of two facing pages shows it without glare, but in quite poor resolution. The body of mu is indiscernible here but may be clear in the original plate. The remaining characters can be confidently identified in this latter photo.

⟨9⟩ °hita- • In the photo, these characters are obscured by the ring, but probably clear in the original.

⟨10⟩ °kr̥ta° • These characters are obscured by the ring except for the marker, but are probably clear in the original.

⟨12⟩ -dhāraṇa- • The actual intent must have been -dhārā°; compare e.g. line 8 of the Koṇeki Grant, line 6 of the Timmapuram plates.

⟨14⟩ -¿(ca)?⟨s⟩bra(hmacāriṇe) • The word may have been conflated with -caraṇāya. — ⟨14⟩ [ca. 1+] ⟨15⟩ [ca. 2×] • The first two characters in line 15 are mostly obscured by the ring in the photo, but should be clear in the original. Based on the upper parts not hidden by the ring, they might be and ṇa, but I cannot arrive at an intelligible reading with these. The reading may perhaps be vārāha (with at the end of line 14), but I cannot tell whether a vājasaneya can follow the Vārāha-sūtra. It may also be possible to read kāṇva (with nothing at the end of line 14).

⟨16⟩ °[de ṣa]° • Obscured by the ring in the photo but probably clear in the original. The restoration de depends on whether I read the end of the previous line correctly.

⟨19⟩ -¡(k)!⟨kh⟩(aṇḍ)(i)k(ā-pari)-pramāṇaṁ • Compare line 23 of the Nutulapaṟu Grant (emended and restored reading: dvādaśa-khaṇḍika-kodrava[ca. 5+]kṣetraṁ) and line 17 of the Jaḷayūru grant of Viṣṇuvardhana III (emended and restored reading: viṁśati-khaṇḍikā-vrīhi-bīja-paripramāṇaṁ kṣetraṁ).

⟨20⟩ śuddh(o) • The subscript part of the second character looks rather like th, and the final vowel may be e; nonetheless, the reading seems quite secure. The word is probably the end of a compound that may qualify either the donated land (e.g. catur-āghāṭa-viśuddho or sarvvādāna-viśuddho; the latter is paralleled in line XXX of the Sātārā plates) or the personal name Gaṇadugarāja (e.g. catur-upadhā-śuddho, paralleled in line XXX of the Śrīpūṇḍi grant of Tāḻa II). — ⟨20⟩ vijñ(a)payat(o?) • I assume the intent was something like vijñaptyā or vijñāpanāt, and Gaṇadugarāja seems to be the name of a dignitary who initiated this donation. — ⟨20⟩ [ca. 2+] • If I am correct in restoring the obscured beginning of the next line, then a very short numeral word is expected here. Given the close connections of this text to the Nutulapaṟu Grant, viṁśe (the date of that grant, though the spelling there is visaḥ) is a good candidate, and the barest vestiges visible here are compatible with vi as the first character of the lost string.

⟨21⟩ gr̥ha- • These characters are obscured in the photo by the ring, though probably clear in the original. My restoration is fully conjectural.

⟨22⟩ (c)ā⟨22⟩nupālitā • The characters before the hole are again obscured in the photo by the ring.

(1–17) Greetings. From the ocean that is the lineage of the majestic Caḷukyas—who are of the Mānavya gotra which is lauded by the entire universe, who are sons of Hāriti, who attained kingship by the grace of Kauśikī’s boon, who are protected by the band of Mothers, who acquired the Boar emblem by the grace of the divine Nārāyaṇa, and whose bodies have been hallowed through washing in the purificatory ablutions (avabhr̥tha) of the Aśvamedha sacrifice—had arisen a moon [who was] His Majesty King (mahārāja) Jayasiṁha Vallabha (I), who earned his great good reputation by his political acumen (naya), discipline (vinaya) and valour. His dear younger brother [was] Indra Bhaṭṭāraka whose valour equalled Indra’s. His son [was] His Majesty King (mahārāja) Viṣṇuvardhana (II), who perfumed the complete circle of the quarters with pleasant fragrance from the efflorescence of his glory [achieved by] martial victory attained in the clash of many a battle, whose flawless and vast intellect was heightened by the study of various textbooks (śāstra) and who was ornamented by virtues such as selflessness, generosity and perseverance. His dear son [is] His Majesty the supremely pious King (mahārāja) Sarvalokāśraya (Maṅgi Yuvarāja), who was deliberately appointed (as heir) by his mother and father, who possesses qualities and powers surpassing [those of] his father, who is endowed with [the three] power[s], who prevails in victory (vijaya-siddhi) in applications of sciences such as critical investigation (ānvīkṣikī) and whose pair of feet are tinted by the hues of the rays from the many gems fitted to the surfaces of the crowns of enemy kings bowed down by the blade 1of his sword. [This King Sarvalokāśraya has given a plot of land] in the southern direction of the village named … to Vindhyaśarman of the Kauśika gotra and the Vājasaneya school, who is an adherent of the … sūtra and a resident of Armakonta, a scholar of the Vedas and Vedāṅgas devoted to the six duties (of a Brahmin) [and endowed with?] ¿excellent virtues?,2 the grandson of Madiśarman and son of ¿Dinna?śarman.

(17–21) … in the western direction … The field sufficient for (sowing) twelve khaṇḍikas (of seed)[was donated] ¿upon the request of? Gaṇadugarāja … on the occasion of a passage of the sun (saṁkrānti), [the donation being] sanctified by (a libation of) water. … In the … year of the progressive triumphant reign. A homestead plot [was also granted], together with a flower garden.

Many (kings) have granted land, and many have preserved it (as formerly granted). Whosoever at any time owns the land, the fruit {reward (accrued of granting it)} belongs to him at that time.
II
He who would seize land, whether given by himself or by another, shall be born as a worm in faeces for sixty thousand years.

(28) The executor (ājñapti) is Nissāra¿minni?, son of Guṇadhara. Written (likhita) by ¿Daḻasa?.3

No report and no previous edition of this grant is known. The present edition was created for DHARMA by Dániel Balogh, on the basis of photographs provided in 2010 by the owner of the plates.
