Kōvintapputtūr (Govindapputtūr), Gaṅgājaṭādhara temple, time of Parakesarivarman, year 22

Editors: Valérie Gillet, Emmanuel Francis.

Identifier: DHARMA_INSTamilNadu00511.

Summary: On the lowest part of the base (jagati) of the southern façade of the ardha-maṇḍapa. Regnal year 22 of matirai koṇṭa Kōpparakesarivarman = Parāntaka I (circa 929 CE). The inscription does not begin with the expected svasti śrī. The inscription is presently not entirely legible notably because of sprayed cement. ARIE 1928-1929 states: “Gives a list of three plots of land, one of which was a gift (by purchase) by Kāḍaṉ-Mādēvaṉ of Ma[da]nakāmīśvarapuram, for providing for offerings to Vijayamaṅgalattu-Mahādēva, the other two being endowments by the assembly.”

Hand description:

The script resembles that of inscriptions from the 11th century on this very façade, suggesting it is a copy.

Language: Tamil.

Repository: Tamil Nadu (varia) (tfa-tamilnadu-epigraphy).

Version: (fe2901a), last modified (e1bfa9c).
