· We, the administrators <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tevarkaṉmi</foreign></supplied> of the Āticaṇḍeśvara shrine in the temple of Lord Nalla Nāyaṉār, have granted to Tappili Tāḷviyāḻvi, alias Tirukkaḷiṟṟuppaṭi<note>Her name alludes to the famous elephant-carved doorsteps <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaḷiṟu + paṭi</foreign></supplied> of the Naṭarāja shrine at Chidambaram. The same place is also used for the title of the <title>Tirukkaḷiṟṟuppaṭiyār</title>, the second-earliest theological treatise among the <title>Meykaṇṭa Cāttiraṅkaḷ</title>.</note> Naṅkai, a <foreign>tēvaraṭiyār</foreign> of this temple, seven <foreign>mā</foreign>s of wet-land belonging to the <foreign>devadāna</foreign> of this Lord—the plot granted is on the ridge <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>taṭattē</foreign></supplied>, extending <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ceṉ<supplied reason="omitted">ṟu</supplied></foreign></supplied> to the Vaṇāttūr highway <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>peruvaḻi</foreign></supplied> and the black backwaters <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>karuṅkaḻi</foreign></supplied>.

135 After depositing <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>oṭukki</foreign></supplied> in the temple treasury <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śrīpaṇṭāram</foreign></supplied> one full kaḻañcu <supplied reason="subaudible">for</supplied> the seven <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>mā</foreign></supplied>s, and depositing one mañcāṭi <supplied reason="subaudible">for</supplied> four <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>mā</foreign></supplied>s, she took possession <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaikkoṇṭu</foreign></supplied> of seven <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>mā</foreign></supplied>s of land.
·<note>The syntax of this clause is elliptical. It may be understood as giving two different rates <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>7 <foreign>mā</foreign>s = one full <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>; 4 <foreign>mā</foreign>s = one <foreign>mañcāṭi</foreign></foreign></supplied>, but the expected dative markers are absent. Moreover, the beginning of l. 7 was not clear to us in the three visits we did to the temple, and the photographs and the estampages do not clearly show the first <foreign>akṣaras</foreign>. Therefore, the exact relation between the amounts of gold and the area(s) remains unclear; the interpretation offered here is merely tentative.</note>
