The worship of the Seven Mothers and the designation of the priests who called themselves <hi rend="bold">Mātṛiśivas</hi> deserve special attention.</p>

· <p>Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 10th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi>, we (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly of <hi rend="bold">Veḷichchēri</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Puliyūrkōṭṭam</hi> (<hi rend="italic">wrote this):</hi>—<hi rend="bold">Tiruveṭpūr-uḍaiyāṉ Tēvaḍigaḷ</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Tiruveṭpūr</hi> in <hi rend="bold">[Ma]ḻa-nāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a subdivision</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Śōḻa-nāḍu</hi> provided for one sacred offering each day (<hi rend="italic">to continue</hi>) as long as the moon to the <hi rend="bold">Saptamātṛis</hi> of our village. For this he purchased and gave two hundred <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of land which comprised four <hi rend="italic">taḍis (and was called) Pūdipākkaṉśeruvu</hi>, a paddy field on the southern side of this village and (<hi rend="italic">also</hi>) land (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi) (measuring</hi>) five hundred and thirty-one and a half and half <hi rend="italic">kāṇi</hi> in (<hi rend="italic">the field called) Iraṇḍēṟṟi</hi>. We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly ordered the exemption of all taxes (<hi rend="italic">on these lands</hi>) and made (<hi rend="italic">them</hi>) tax-free. We the <hi rend="italic">Mātṛiśivas</hi> who own this sacred temple (<hi rend="italic">śrīkōil</hi>) shall ourselves take possession of these lands and shall offer one sacred offering daily (<hi rend="italic">to the goddesses</hi>). <hi rend="bold">Kāḷiya-bhaṭṭar</hi> having effected this (<hi rend="italic">transaction</hi>) had it engraved (<hi rend="italic">on stone</hi>).</p>
