· <p>In Tiruvoṟṟiyūr near Madras, a similar endowment was made during the time of king <hi rend="bold">Kulōttuṅga</hi> III. for explaining the science of grammar and a hall called <hi rend="italic">vyākaraṇamaṇḍapa</hi> was specially built for that purpose<note>No. 202 of the <hi rend="italic">Madras Epigraphical Collection</hi> for 1912.</note> .</p>

80 <p>Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 3rd year of <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">this is</hi>) the writing of us (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a village</hi>) in its own subdivision, in <hi rend="bold">Kāliyūr-kōṭṭam</hi>. The following are the lands granted as <hi rend="italic">vyākhyāvṛitti</hi>, for (<hi rend="italic">the maintenance of</hi>) those who comment (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, lecture) on the science of grammar in our village:—480 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of third rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) given by <hi rend="bold">Bhadraṅkadu Vāsudēva-Bhaṭṭa Sōmāśiyār</hi> (Sōmayājin) in the second square (<hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi>) to the east of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Mārapiḍugu-vadi</hi> of the twenty-third <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi>, north of (<hi rend="italic">the lane called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Subrahmaṇya-Nārāśam</hi>; 720 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of first rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) given by <hi rend="bold">Ōdimukil Mādhava-Bhaṭṭa</hi>, in the second and third squares, to the west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Paramēśvara-vadi</hi> in the nineteenth <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi> on the south side of the village; 220 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of first rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) given by <hi rend="bold">Turpil Naraśiṅga Kramavittaṉ</hi> in the same place; 15 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of channel that irrigates these (<hi rend="italic">lands</hi>); <hi rend="bold">Noṭṭūr Paṭṭaya-Kramavittar</hi> and <hi rend="bold">Nandiśāmi-Pōśar</hi>.</p>
