We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly ordered that those who speak or act against this shall be liable to be punished each with a fine of twenty-five <hi rend="italic">poṉ</hi> by the <hi rend="italic">Śraddhāmantas</hi> themselves and shall incur the sins . . . between <hi rend="bold">Gaṅgā</hi> (the Ganges) and <hi rend="bold">Kumari</hi> (Cape Comorin). I, <hi rend="italic">madhyastaṉ</hi> <hi rend="bold">Śeṟkuṟi Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgala-Uttamaṉ</hi>, wrote (<hi rend="italic">this</hi>) under orders of the great men, being (<hi rend="italic">myself</hi>) one of the assembly.</p>

I cannot explain what it indicates. The group of symbols, which again is given in line 8 of the text, perhaps includes the extent of land already given and expressed in line 4 and that expressed by the three symbols in line 8.</note> Having received, so as to pay up the taxes on this land, <hi rend="italic">pūrvāchāra</hi> from the merchant <hi rend="bold">Śendiraṉ Eḻunūṟṟuvaṉ</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Nuḷamba-Māyilaṭṭi</hi> of . . . . . <hi rend="bold">pēṭṭai</hi>, we, the members of the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, declared that on these lands no taxes of any kind such as <hi rend="italic">iṟai, echchōṟu, veṭṭi, amañji</hi>, would be shown (<hi rend="italic">in the registers</hi>) and gave them away tax-free (<hi rend="italic">accordingly</hi>).</p>
