35 <p>This inscription, which is fragmentary, registers the gift of a gold <hi rend="italic">koḷgai</hi> set with gems, to the god at <hi rend="bold">Tiruviśalūr</hi>. The place is mentioned in the <hi rend="italic">Dēvāram</hi>. It is not known exactly what <hi rend="italic">koḷgai</hi> means. <hi rend="italic">Kombiṟ-koḷgai</hi> occurs in the Tanjore inscriptions as an ornament for the tusk of Gaṇapati. Perhaps <hi rend="italic">koḷgai</hi> is the cover or mask which is generally put over the <hi rend="italic">liṅga</hi> in Śiva temples.</p>
