35 <p>This inscription is dated in the 16th year of <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman Uttama-Chōḷa</hi>. It refers to a scrutiny of accounts of the temple of <hi rend="bold">Tiruvoṟṟiyūr</hi> made in this year and registers the assignment of a gold salver to the temple by the headman of <hi rend="bold">Eḻinūr</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Puṟaṅgarambai-nāḍu</hi>. The district in which <hi rend="bold">Puṟaṅgarambai-nāḍu</hi> was situated is not given; but we know from other records that it was in <hi rend="bold">Arumoḻidēva-vaḷanāḍu</hi> also called <hi rend="bold">Teṉ Kaḍuvāy</hi><note>See above, Vol. II, Introduction, pages 21-22.</note>. The village of <hi rend="bold">Eḻinūr</hi> mentioned in the record may be identified with <hi rend="bold">Eḻalūr</hi> in the Tirutturaippūṇḍi taluk of the Tanjore district.</p>

· <p>Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 16th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) the glorious <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷadēva</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman, Nandīśuran</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Parakēsari-Viḻupparaiyaṉ</hi>, the headman of <hi rend="bold">Eḻinūr</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a village</hi>) in <hi rend="bold">Puṟaṅgarambai-nāḍu</hi> (<hi rend="italic">which was a subdivision</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Śōḻa-nāḍu</hi>, who scrutinises the sacred business of the god (<hi rend="italic">āḷvār</hi>) at <hi rend="bold">Tiruvoṟṟiyūr</hi>, assigned, after adding up the king's income, one gold salver with pits, weighing eight hundred and eighty-eight <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> marked and pure (<hi rend="italic">as tested by</hi>) the stone (<hi rend="italic">-weight</hi>) of the treasury (<hi rend="italic">paṇḍārakkal</hi>), for offering food to the god, as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">endure</hi>). In this (<hi rend="italic">are included</hi>) the forty <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of marked and pure gold deposited by <hi rend="bold">Śīyaṉ Puravariṉirañjaṉaṉ</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">one of the</hi>) Vaḷañjiyar, for offering two dishes of superior food (<hi rend="italic">uttamāgram), (in order to secure merit</hi>) for <hi rend="bold">Kāḷaṉ</hi><note><hi rend="italic">Kālattukku</hi> apparently stands here for <hi rend="italic">Kāḷaṉukku</hi>.</note> and <hi rend="bold">Māṇikkaśeṭṭi</hi>.</p>
