· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 6th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>, the headman of <hi rend="bold">Eḻiṉūr</hi> • • • for burning one perpetual lamp, as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">endure</hi>), to (<hi rend="italic">the temple of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Ādityēśvaramuḍaiya-Mahādēva</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Tirunallam</hi>. (<hi rend="italic">The boundaries of</hi>) the land which I, on behalf of Dēvaṉ<note>The words <foreign>karanikariṭai yāṉ tēvaṉaykoṇṭu</foreign> are not quite intelligible. The translation offered is purely tentative.</note> in presence of the ‘Karaṇikas,’ (<hi rend="italic">set apart</hi>) for this (<hi rend="italic">purpose</hi>) and excluded from the lands of the god (<hi rend="italic">are as follow):—(The eastern boundary is</hi>) to the west of the land (<hi rend="italic">called</hi>) Kuḷavampandal (<hi rend="italic">belonging to</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Pālāśiriyaṉ</hi> of Mīḍūr; the southern boundary is to the north of (<hi rend="italic">the channel called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Ṛishabhavāhana-vāykkāl</hi>; the western boundary is to the east of the land (<hi rend="italic">belonging to</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Pālāśiriyaṉ Śāttaṉ Kāri</hi> and (<hi rend="italic">his</hi>) younger brother and to the channel of the village; the northern boundary is to the south of the land (<hi rend="italic">belonging to</hi>) these same (<hi rend="italic">persons</hi>).</p>

(<hi rend="italic">The total extent of</hi>) the land thus (<hi rend="italic">described) (viz.,) (one</hi>) quarter, one-fortieth, one three-hundred and twentieth and 1/320 of three-fourths, one hundred and sixtieth and one hundred and sixtieth<note>The repetition of <foreign>araikkāṇi</foreign> in the text seems to be a mistake.</note> . This land was excluded (<hi rend="italic">being set apart</hi>) for burning one perpetual lamp as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">endure). (The assembly of</hi>) all <hi rend="italic">Māhēśvaras</hi> shall protect this (<hi rend="italic">charity</hi>). This lamp was given by this person.</p>
