In the 4th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Rājakēsarivarman, Pirāntakaṉ Iruṅgōḷar</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Śiṟiyavēḷar</hi>, paid 130 <hi rend="italic">īḻakkāśu</hi> to the great men of the big assembly and gave, freed from payment (<hi rend="italic">of taxes) (adēyam</hi><note>The meaning of the phrase <foreign>a<hi rend="grantha">de</hi>yam ceytu</foreign> is not quite clear. It may be that the land was made taxfree and the phrase corresponds to the Tamil <foreign>iṟaiyili</foreign>. The tax payable to the king is designated <hi rend="italic">rājapradēya</hi> in the next inscription, text line 2. The other meaning that suggests itself is that the land was made inalienable.</note> ) the following land for the sacred midday offerings to (<hi rend="italic">the temple of</hi>) the god (<hi rend="italic">perumāṉaḍigaḷ</hi>) at <hi rend="bold">Tiruviśalūr</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Amaninārāyaṇa-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, a <hi rend="italic">dēvadāna</hi> and a <hi rend="italic">brahamdēya</hi> on the northern bank (<hi rend="italic">of the Kāvērī), (to last</hi>) as long as the moon and the sun.</p>
