35 <p>This is a record, in archaic characters, of <hi rend="bold">Rājakēsarivarman</hi> (perhaps <hi rend="bold">Āditya</hi> I.) dated in his 2nd year. It registers gifts made by the merchants (<hi rend="italic">nagarattār</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Kumaramārtāṇḍapuram</hi> to meet the cost of repairs to the enclosure (<hi rend="italic">called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Maunakumaramārtāṇḍaṉ</hi> and the <hi rend="italic">gōpura</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Milāḍuḍaiyārpaḷḷi</hi>. From No. 199 of the Madras Epigraphical collection for 1907 it appears that <hi rend="bold">Kumaramārtāṇḍaṉ</hi> was a surname of the <hi rend="bold">Pallava</hi> king <hi rend="bold">Nandippōttaraiyar</hi>. In the word <hi rend="bold">Milāḍuḍaiyārpaḷḷi</hi> we may have a possible reference to the <hi rend="bold">Śaiva</hi> saint <hi rend="bold">Meypporuṇāyaṉār</hi> also called <hi rend="bold">Milāḍuḍaiyār</hi>. As the usual imprecation <foreign>paṉ<hi rend="grantha">māheśvararakṣai</hi></foreign> does not occur at the end of the inscription, it is much more probable that <hi rend="bold">Milāḍuḍaiyārpaḷḷi</hi> was a Jaina temple than a Śaiva shrine called after <hi rend="bold">Milāḍuḍaiyār</hi>.</p>
