35 <p>This inscription is dated in the <unclear>3</unclear>4th year of the reign of <hi rend="bold">Kulōttuṅga-Chōḷadēva</hi> and records the gift of two lamps by <hi rend="bold">Ariyapiḷḷai</hi>,<note>According to an inscription in the Jambukēśvara temple, Ariyapiḷḷai was also the name of the mother of a queen of the Hoysaḷa king Rāmanātha; <hi rend="italic">Ep. Ind</hi>. Vol. III. p. 9, note 5.</note> the queen of <hi rend="bold">Amarābharaṇa-Śīyagaṅga</hi>. An inscription in the <hi rend="bold">Ēkāmranātha</hi> temple at Kāñchipuram (No. 10 of 1893) mentions the same chief as “the supreme lord of <hi rend="bold">Kuvaḷālapura</hi> (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi> Kōlār), he who was born from the <hi rend="bold">Gaṅga</hi> family, <hi rend="bold">Śīyagaṅgaṉ Amarābharaṇaṉ</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Tiruvēgambamuḍaiyāṉ,”</hi><note><foreign><hi rend="grantha">śrī</hi>maṟkuvaḷālapuraparame<hi rend="grantha">śva</hi>raṉ kaṅkakuloṟ<hi rend="grantha">bha</hi>van ciyyakaṅkaṉ Amarā<hi rend="grantha">bha</hi>raṇaṉāṉa tiruvekampamuṭaiyāṉ</foreign>.</note> and is dated in the 27th year of the reign of <hi rend="bold">Kulōttuṅga-Chōḷa</hi> III.<note><foreign><hi rend="grantha">tribhu</hi>vaṉaccakkaravattikaḷ maturaiyum pāṇṭiya<unclear>ṉ</unclear> muṭittalai<unclear>yu</unclear>ṅkoṇṭaru<unclear>ḷi</unclear>ya ṣrīkulottuṅkacoḻatevaṟku yāṇṭu <num value="27">2 <g type="numeral">10</g> 7</num> Āvatu <gap reason="lost" quantity="10" unit="character"/> Ivvāṇṭai vaikācimā<hi rend="grantha">sa</hi>ttup<unclear>pa</unclear>tiṉoṉṟāntiyatiyum vi<unclear>yāḻakiḻa</unclear>mai peṟṟa Aṉiḻamumāṉavaṉṟu;</foreign> “on the day of <hi rend="italic">Anurādhā</hi>, which corresponded to a Thursday and to the eleventh day of the month of <hi rend="italic">Vaigāśi</hi> in this year.”</note> </p>

· <p>According to its preface, the famous Tamil Grammar <hi rend="italic">Naṉṉūl</hi> was composed by <hi rend="bold">Pavaṇandi</hi> (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi> Bhavanandin) at the order of <hi rend="bold">Śīyagaṅgaṉ Amarābharaṇaṉ</hi>. The Ēkāmranātha inscription proves that Bhavanandin's patron was a vassal of Kulōttuṅga III.</p>
