Prosperity! Fortune!

(1–2) 10th year of the king Rājarājakesarivarman, who apportioned pots in Kāntaḷūr-cālai.

(2–4) [This is] the hand-writing of We, the villagers from Vēḷkaḷa-veṇpākkam, in the vicinity (puṟam¹) of the glorious Govintapāṭi in Tāmar-nāṭu.

(4–7) This is the manner in which, we, having received [it] from the hand [of] Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār alias […]-uṭaiyaṉ Arunilai Śrīkṛṣṇaṉ, the accountant of Piṭavūr-nāṭu, on the northern bank, in the Cōḻa-nāṭu, received these 20 gold [coins] of superior quality (tuḷai) … (kaṭava cempoṉ tanma-kaṭṭaḷaiyāl).

(7–9) From [the month of] Puraṭṭāti of this year, [there are] 3 kaḻañcus of gold coming each year as interest, … (kaḻañci¡n!⟨ṉ⟩ vā⟨y⟩ tiṅkaḷ iraṇṭum-ā).

(9–12) Let the priests (nampimār), who do the daily sacred services (śrīkāryam ceykiṉṟa) for the Lord be appointed as collectors (taṇṭi iṭuvippatu). Every year, the interest of three kaḻañcus of gold so that there be:

two kaḻañcus for the leaders of the assembly (paridai nāyakaṉmār), who sing (āṭiṉa), on the seventh day of the holy festival for this God, the holy hymn (tiruppatiyam) that begins with kōlanaṟkuḻal and that Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār alias Kāyāvāṉ Arunilai, his father (ivar tam appaṉār²), composed (viṇṇapam ceyta) [in honour of] the Lord (āḻvāṉ) of holy Govintapāṭi,
and a kaḻañcu for the priests of the temple (kōyil nampimār), who commissioned (kēṭppitta) it.

(14–16) If we appoint [them], let them be entitled to impose a fine (taṇṭam) … (tiruvāṇai maṟaiyum paṭṭu tēvakanmikaḷ) ….

(16–17) Let us have the duty (kaṭavōm) of enforcing in this manner this agreement (nivantam) that covers the fine (taṇṭam) imposed by them.

(17–18) Having agreed in this manner, We, the villagers of Vēḷkaḷa-Veṇpākkam, gave for the sake of Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār.

(18–19) I, Āṟaiyāṉ, the preceptor from holy Govintapāṭi, I have engraved this stone inscription, as enjoined by the villagers.

(19) These are my writings.

(19–20) This is [under] the protection of the holy Vaiṣṇavas.

This is the manner in which, we, having received <supplied reason="subaudible">it</supplied> from the hand <supplied reason="subaudible">of</supplied> Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <gap reason="lost"/>-uṭaiyaṉ Arunilai Śrīkṛṣṇaṉ, the accountant of Piṭavūr-nāṭu, on the northern bank, in the Cōḻa-nāṭu, received these 20 gold <supplied reason="subaudible">coins</supplied> of superior quality <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tuḷai</foreign></supplied> <gap reason="ellipsis"/> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaṭava cempoṉ ta<hi rend="grantha">nma</hi>-kaṭṭaḷaiyāl</foreign></supplied>.

From <supplied reason="subaudible">the month of</supplied> Puraṭṭāti of this year, <supplied reason="subaudible">there are</supplied> 3 <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>s of gold coming each year as interest, <gap reason="ellipsis"/> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaḻañci<choice><orig>n</orig><reg>ṉ</reg></choice> vā<supplied reason="omitted">y</supplied> tiṅkaḷ iraṇṭum-ā</foreign></supplied>.

Let the priests <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nampimār</foreign></supplied>, who do the daily sacred services <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śrīkāryam ceykiṉṟa</foreign></supplied> for the Lord be appointed as collectors <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>taṇṭi iṭuvippatu</foreign></supplied>. Every year, the interest of three <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>s of gold so that there be:

<item>two <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>s for the leaders of the assembly <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>paridai nāyakaṉmār</foreign></supplied>, who sing <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>āṭiṉa</foreign></supplied>, on the seventh day of the holy festival for this God, the holy hymn <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tiruppatiyam</foreign></supplied> that begins with <foreign>kōlanaṟkuḻal</foreign> and that Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Kāyāvāṉ Arunilai, his father <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ivar tam appaṉār</foreign><note>That is, Kāyāvāṉ Arunilai is the father of the donor Arunilai Śrīkṛṣṇaṉ.</note></supplied>, composed <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>viṇṇapam ceyta</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">in honour of</supplied> the Lord <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>āḻvāṉ</foreign></supplied> of holy Govintapāṭi,</item>

<item>and a <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign> for the priests of the temple <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kōyil nampimār</foreign></supplied>, who commissioned <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kēṭppitta</foreign></supplied> it.

If we appoint <supplied reason="subaudible">them</supplied>, let them be entitled to impose a fine <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>taṇṭam</foreign></supplied> <gap reason="ellipsis"/> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tiruvāṇai maṟaiyum paṭṭu tēvaka<hi rend="grantha">nmi</hi>kaḷ</foreign></supplied> <gap reason="ellipsis"/>.

Let us have the duty <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaṭavōm</foreign></supplied> of enforcing in this manner this agreement <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nivantam</foreign></supplied> that covers the fine <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>taṇṭam</foreign></supplied> imposed by them.

Having agreed in this manner, We, the villagers of Vēḷkaḷa-Veṇpākkam, gave for the sake of Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār.

I, Āṟaiyāṉ, the preceptor from holy Govintapāṭi, I have engraved this stone inscription, as enjoined by the villagers.

These are my writings.

In the tenth year of the king Rājarāja-kesari-panmaṉ, who apportioned pots in Kāntaḷūr-cālai.

This is the handwriting of the villagers from Vēḷkaḷa-veṇpākkam, next to holy Govintapāṭi in Tāmar-nāṭu[…].The account regarding Piṭavūr-nāṭu, on the northern border of Cōḻa-nāṭu, [is the following:]

This year, the received gift was this 20 marked (tuḷai) gold [coins] because of the endowment order for [this] quality gold under our responsability, fixed by (kaiyāl) Arunilai Śrīkṛṣṇaṉ,<hi rend="italic">alias</hi>Muvēnta Piṭavūr, owner of […].

Three kaḻañcus of gold came each year through interest, being that the first [of them came] in the month of Puraṭṭāti, the second [through] monthly [interest], and one through annual interest.

Let the trustees–in charge of the temple (śrīkāryam ceykiṉṟa) of the Lord [which will] every year as long as the sun and the moon last–be appointed as collectors (taṇṭi) of the interest of three kaḻañcus of gold so that one kaḻañcu is for the heads of the temple (kōyil nampimār), to which they dedicated (kēṭppitta) the holy hymn, and two kaḻañcus for the leaders of the assembly (paridai nāyakaṉmār), who performed (āṭiṉa)–on the seventh day of the holy festival–the holy hymn (tiruppatiyam) that begins with kōlanaṟkuḻal, composed(viṇṇapam ceyta) by the devotee (āḻvāṉ) of holy Govintapāṭi, Kāyāvāṉ Arunilai,<hi rend="italic">alias</hi>Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār, donor (appaṉār) of this gold.

If we appoint [them], let them be the chosen for receiving the tax[…], needed for You[…], the temple managers that, by royal order, keep them hidden.

May we become the designated duty bearers (kaṭavōm) of this allowance (nivantam) that covers the tax (taṇṇtam) imposed by them.

We, the villagers of Vēḷkaḷa-Veṇpākkam, gave to Muvēnta Piṭavūr Vēḷār [this endowment] after agreeing in this way.

I am the master of Āṟaiyaṉ of holy Govintapāṭi, the one who has handwritten in the stone, as indicated by the villagers. It is my writing.

This is for the protection of the holy vaiṣṇavas.
