Commentary

Each plate is inscribed on one side, and each side contains 13 lines. The format of this charter seems to be like a book, with outer sides left blank. We therefore number the first inscribed side 1 verso and the second side 2 recto. Plate 2 recto ends with the word svastha, indicating that the text concludes here and no plates are missing from the set. TSN mistakenly merges the two lines 2r5 and 2r6, with the result that she misnumbers lines 2r7–13 as 2r6–12.
