Apparatus

⟨1v1⟩ 8¿0?⟨1⟩8808 CS BDamais 1955, pp. 168–169 demonstrated the need to make the correction to 818.

⟨2r1⟩ nārə CS B • The fact that this is not spelled nāR̥ might suggest we have another case of erroneous use of pepet for long ulu, i.e., that we should correct to nārī.

⟨2r4⟩ Aṅgān· CSArṅgan· B • Cohen Stuart indicated hesitation by placing “(?)” after his reading, but his reading is doubtlessly correct.

⟨2r5⟩ Ai⟨r⟩ pəluṁ ⬦ gḍa pəluṁ CS; Air pəluṁ B • The restitution was first proposed by Damais 1970, p. 81 and silently applied by Boechari. — ⟨2r5⟩ bra¿tma?⟨hmā⟩bra¿tma?⟨hma⟩ CS; bratma BDamais 1970, p. 586 cites this passages with silent application of the correction adopted here.

⟨2v1⟩ ra tuni ⬦ ratu-ni CS; ratuniṁ BDamais 1970, p. 202 proposes the analysis adopted here. — ⟨2v1⟩ vurun· vvaḥ CS BDamais 1970, p. 587, n. 3 commented: “On pourrait se demander s’il ne faut pas lire « wurun dwah », mais ce n’est pas plus satisfaisant”.

Commentary

Damais 1955, p. 169 suggested that this charter might be what he called a copie conforme, i.e., a copy made some time after the date inscribed in the charter. This, he proposed, would help to explain the relatively high incidence of scribal error.

Bibliography

First edited by A. B. Cohen Stuart (1875); the same edition annotated and furnished with and English translation, by H. Bh. Sarkar (1971–1972); edited again by Boechari 1985–1986. The inscription is edited here by Arlo Griffiths, based on photographs of the Leiden estampages of the plates, and furnished with a new English translation by Wayan Jarrah Sastrawan.
