⟨1⟩ Añana

Translation by Aditia Gunawan and Arlo Griffiths

Mind.

Commentary

One word of uncertain reading. Netscher 1855 read angkana (i.e. Aṅkana or Aṁkana) and interpreted it as “his/her sign”. Noorduyn (1976) read Añana. We accept his reading, based on the assumption that it is a spelling variant for ajñana. In OS sources, we often find the letter j being dropped from this word. See e.g. SMG.38 vuku añana “knowledge section”, SC.14 maṅucap kaañanaan “expound the knowledge”.
