175 <p rend="stanza" n="2">There was a king named Śrī-Īśānavarman, who, since he conquered by his valour <supplied reason="subaudible">/ his footsteps</supplied> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vikrama°</foreign></supplied> the circle of the earth that has the seas for its moat, was like another Viṣṇu.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="3">Being one who sometimes cut the factions <supplied reason="subaudible">/wings</supplied> of wrong-doing kings <supplied reason="subaudible">/mountains</supplied> by employing policy alone, he excelled <supplied reason="subaudible">even</supplied> the wielder of the thunderbolt, <supplied reason="subaudible">Indra</supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="4">Stifling the odious birth of all quarrels <supplied reason="subaudible">/the birth of all the maliciousness of Kaliyuga</supplied>, he became, alone <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ekaḥ</foreign></supplied>, the quintessence of the properties of the kings of the early Yugas.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="5">Surpassed by him in the number of sacri ces <supplied reason="subaudible">offered</supplied>, the king of the gods, I think, no longer attached much value to the name that his hundred sacri ces <supplied reason="explanation">Śatakratu</supplied> earned him.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="6">In him, I suppose, Brahmā established Beauty <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vapuḥ</foreign></supplied>, so that it would not remain without a locus after the ower-bow-wielding <supplied reason="subaudible">god of Love</supplied> had been burned.</p>
180 <p rend="stanza" n="7">This <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tena</foreign></supplied> king, whose glory extended to the cardinal points, appointed a servant to <supplied reason="subaudible">take care of</supplied> all his duties:</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="8">The experts of many sciences inscribed him at the head of the list of those who have followed <supplied reason="subaudible">to the end</supplied> the paths of grammar, of Vaiśeṣika, of Nyāya, and of the philosophy <supplied reason="subaudible">of the Sāṅkhyas</supplied> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>samīkṣā</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="9">Poet, philosopher, knower of the world, this maître named Vidyāviśeṣa considered his friends as dear as his own breaths.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="10">He whose intentions were pure <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śuddhābhisandhinā</foreign></supplied>, wishing that <supplied reason="subaudible">his</supplied> devotion to Īśāna would remain rm in every birth, erected this liṅga here.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="11">The village named Śākatīrtha, lled with servants, oxen, buffalo, gardens, elds, etc., is the gift of the founder <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yajvanaḥ</foreign></supplied> to Īśa.</p>
185 <p rend="stanza" n="12">A Pāśupata brahmin appointed by the king for the service of the god should enjoy the revenues of the temple until the destruction of the world.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="13">He must imperatively protect this scrupulously as if it were his own pious work, if he wishes blessings bestowed by good people.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="14">In the year of arrows-seas-gates <supplied reason="explanation">549</supplied>, on the 22nd day of the month of Iṣa <supplied reason="explanation">Āśvina</supplied>, under the asterism Puṣya, Leo being at the horizon, this Hara was erected.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="15">After this act that entitles him to merit had been accomplished, the king then made this benefactor the excellent governor of Tamandarapura.</p>
