· <p rend="stanza" n="2">Il y eut un roi Śrī Rudravarman, invincible comme Trivikrama, dont l'heureux règne est d'aujourd'hui encore célébré à l'égal de celui de Dilīpa.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="3">A son service, comme premiers médecins, furent deux frères, semblables aux Aśvins, Brahmadatta, qui <supplied reason="explanation">était</supplied> l'aîné, et Brahmasiṁha, qui <supplied reason="explanation">était</supplied> le cadet.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="4">Les deux, à leur tour, eurent deux neveux illustres, Dharmadeva, le premier né, et, immédiatement après lui, Siṁhadeva.</p>

300 <p rend="stanza" n="10">Savant, chez qui les savants vont aujourd'hui encore s'abreuver du suc de l'art poétique, il fut le ministre excellent du roi Śrī Īśānavarman.</p>

· <p rend="stanza" n="13">Celui-ci eut un fils, dont le coeur demeura inaccessible à l'envie et aux autres défauts, qui, n'ayant que de hautes visées, maintint constamment sa pensée fixée sur Bhava.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="14">Dans l'enfance même, il montra de la retenue; dans la jeunesse même, il sut dompter ses sens; au temps même de la poursuite des trois sortes <supplied reason="explanation">de biens</supplied>, il donna <supplied reason="explanation">toujours</supplied> la préférence au devoir.</p>
305 <p rend="stanza" n="15">Bien que vivant en cet âge <supplied reason="explanation">dégénéré</supplied>, il reste ferme dans la bonne coutume, de sorte que Dharma, quoique harassé par Kali, ne bronche pas, bien qu'il n'ait plus qu'un seul pied.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="16">Médecin du glorieux lion des rois, du victorieux Jayavarman, il fut sans orgueil, bien qu'il sût tout ce qu'il est possible de savoir.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="17">Ensuite le roi, avec des marques d'honneur, le céda au royal frère de sa mère, lequel, sans savoir le titre de roi, jouissant d'une fortune digne d'un roi.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="18">Puis, selon d'ordre de succession dans la famille, le roi ayant reconnu qu'il était l'homme convenable, l'établit avec honneur dans le gouvernement de cette <supplied reason="explanation">ville d'</supplied>Āḍhyapura.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="19">Alors seulement qu'il la protégea avec justice, procurant sans cesse la prospérité d'autrui, cette ville d'Āḍhyapura justifia vraiment son nom.</p>
310 <p rend="stanza" n="20">Renonçant à prendre des chefs de maison la juste redevance de leurs jardins, encore qu'il en fût le maître, il leur donna par là la peine aisance.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="21">Quand, de la part des malades ou des indigents, par suite même de leur confiance <supplied reason="explanation">en lui</supplied>, il entendait une parole impatiente, sa pitié en était doublée.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="22">"Que ce que j'ai amassé de mérite depuis ma naissance soit à mon père," telle est la résolution qu'on célèbre de lui.</p>
