35 <p>This record, which belongs to the 3rd year of the reign of king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> who took the head of the <hi rend="bold">Pāṇḍya</hi>, registers a grant of land by purchase by the chief <hi rend="bold">Śiṟṟiṅgaṇuḍaiyāṉ Kōyilmayilai</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Parāntaka Mūvēndavēḷāṉ</hi> for expounding the system of <hi rend="bold">Prabhākara</hi>. This teacher was the founder of a new school of <hi rend="italic">Mīmāmsā</hi> philosophy which was greatly popular for some time in the south. The record under review is itself strong evidence of the popularity of the creed. A Telugu book called <hi rend="italic">Sakalārthasāgara</hi> makes <hi rend="bold">Prabhākara</hi>, one of the pupils of <hi rend="bold">Kumārila-Bhaṭṭa</hi>. He was also widely known as Prabhākara-guru and was the teacher of <hi rend="bold">Śālikanātha</hi>. Consequently Prabhākara's period must have been about the beginning of the 8th century A.D. See also <hi rend="italic">Madras Epigraphical Report</hi> for 1912, page 65.</p>
