35 <p>This record of the 2nd year of king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, has to be attributed to <hi rend="bold">Āditya (II.)—Karikāla</hi>, whose defeat of the Pāṇḍya king while he was yet a boy is mentioned in the Tiruvālaṅgāḍu plates printed in the sequel. His father <hi rend="bold">Sundarachōḷa-Parāntaka</hi> II. is already described as having driven a Pāṇḍya king into the forest. This must be the early Vīra-Pāṇḍya whose Vatteḻuttu inscriptions are found in the Tinnevelly district and in which he claims in his turn to have taken the head of the Chōḷa. <hi rend="bold">Nandivarma-maṅgalam</hi> was evidently an earlier name of the modern <hi rend="bold">Uyyakkoṇḍāṉ Tirumalai</hi> and must have been so called after the Pallava king <hi rend="bold">Nandivarman</hi>. The temple of <hi rend="bold">Kaṟkuḍi</hi> is mentioned in the hymns of the <hi rend="italic">Dēvāram</hi>.<note>See above, Vol. II, p. 375.</note> </p>
