35 <p>This inscription records a gift of gold for burning a sacred lamp, in the 6th year of king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsari Vēndrādivarman</hi>, by a resident of <hi rend="bold">Talaiśayanapuram</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Taiyūr</hi>.</p>
·
· <p><hi rend="bold">Vēndrādivarman</hi> is probably the same as <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādivarman</hi>. The adjunct <hi rend="bold">Parakēsari</hi> shows that he was either a Chōḷa king or a Chōḷa subordinate. The title may further enable us to connect <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādivarman</hi> with <hi rend="bold">Āditya (II.)-Karikāla</hi>, which is not very unlikely.</p>
·
· <p><hi rend="bold">Talaisāyanam</hi> is the name of the <hi rend="bold">Vishṇu</hi> temple at <hi rend="bold">Mahābalipuram</hi> referred to in the <hi rend="italic">Nālāyiraprabandham</hi>. <hi rend="bold">Taiyūr</hi> is No. 52 on the Madras survey map of the Chingleput taluk, about 12 miles north-west of Mahābalipuram.</p>
