35 <p>This record is dated in the 4th year of <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi> and registers a gift of land to the temple of <hi rend="bold">Subrahmaṇya-bhaṭṭāra</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> by <hi rend="bold">Śandiraṉ Eḻunūṟṟuvaṉ</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Nuḷamba Māyilaṭṭi</hi>, a merchant of <hi rend="bold">Raṇavīrappāḍi</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kāñchīpura. Raṇavīrappāḍi</hi> is already known from the Madras Museum plates of <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi> to have been a hamlet of <hi rend="bold">Kāñchīpura</hi> (Conjeeveram). The donor is mentioned in other inscriptions of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramallūr</hi> in connexion with several other charities in that place.</p>

· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 4th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">this is</hi>) the writing of us (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a village</hi>) in its own subdivision in <hi rend="bold">Kāliyūr-kōṭṭam:</hi>—The land which <hi rend="bold">Śandiraṉ Eḻunūṟṟuvaṉ</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Nuḷamba Māyilaṭṭi</hi>, a merchant of <hi rend="bold">Raṇavīrappāḍi</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kāñchīpura</hi>, purchased from us and granted as <hi rend="italic">śrībalibhōga</hi> for sounding <hi rend="italic">śrībali (in the temple of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Subrahmaṇya-bhaṭṭāra</hi> of our village (<hi rend="italic">is what follows):</hi>—240 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of third rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) in the first <hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi>, east of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Māṟapiḍugu-vadi</hi> of the thirteenth <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi>, north of (<hi rend="italic">the channel called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Śridēvi-vāykkāl</hi>; in the same place 540 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) of fourth rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) and in the same place 180 (<hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>) of sixth rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>).</p>

We shall not enter against these lands (<hi rend="italic">in our books</hi>) any kind of assessment <hi rend="italic">echchōṟu, amañji, veṭṭi</hi>, etc. We (<hi rend="italic">the members of</hi>) the big assembly unanimoulsy give our consent to collect a fine of twenty <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold in the court of justice from those who obstruct this (<hi rend="italic">charity</hi>) and declare that (<hi rend="italic">those who deviate from this</hi>) shall incur the sins committed by sinners (<hi rend="italic">in the land</hi>) between <hi rend="bold">Gaṅgā</hi> and <hi rend="bold">Kumari</hi>.</p>

The land given by this (<hi rend="italic">same</hi>) person for (<hi rend="italic">the ceremony connected with</hi>) waking up the image from bed (<hi rend="italic">paḷḷi-eḻuchchi) (is):</hi>—Seven hundred and twenty <hi rend="italic">kuḻi (comprised</hi>) of three <hi rend="italic">pāḍagam</hi> in the first and sixth squares north of (<hi rend="italic">the channel</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Sarasvatīvāykkāl</hi> of the second <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi>, west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Paramēśvara-vadi</hi>. We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the <hi rend="italic">assembly</hi> exempted (<hi rend="italic">this land</hi>) from taxes and had (<hi rend="italic">the gift deed</hi>) written on stone.</p>
