35 <p>The assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramērūr-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> received the usual <hi rend="italic">pūrvāchāram</hi> from <hi rend="bold">Śandiraṉ Eḻunūṟṟuvaṉ Nuḷamba-Māyilaṭṭi</hi>, a merchant of <hi rend="bold">Raṇavīrappāḍi</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kāñchīpura</hi> and exempted taxes on certain lands which they had given to a priest of the temple, in the fourth year (<hi rend="italic">of the reign</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>.</p>

· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 4th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">this is</hi>) the writing of us (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramērūr-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> (<hi rend="italic">situated</hi>) in its (<hi rend="italic">own</hi>) subdivision (<hi rend="italic">kūṟu</hi>) in <hi rend="bold">Kāliyūr-kōṭṭam</hi>. The land given to Ātrayaṉ Ta[t*]ta-bha[ṭ*]ṭaṉ who performs the worship of the god (<hi rend="italic">perumāṉaḍigaḷ</hi>) in the big hall (<hi rend="italic">periya-maṇḍapa</hi>) of our village, for <hi rend="italic">archanābhōga</hi>, sacred offerings and sacred lamps (<hi rend="italic">is as follows):—</hi></p>

Six hundred <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of first rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) in the second square (<hi rend="italic">śadukkam</hi>) and in the third square west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Viḍēlviḍugu-vadi</hi> of the first <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi>, north of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Vayiramēga-vadi</hi>; also every sort of land which formed the one share assigned (<hi rend="italic">by us</hi>) to <hi rend="bold">Kandāḍai Poṉṉaiyakramavitta Sōmāśiyār Ambalattaḍigaḷ</hi>. We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly having received <hi rend="italic">pūrvāchāram</hi> for this land from <hi rend="bold">Śandiraṉ Eḻunūṟṟuvaṉ Nuḷamba Māyilaṭṭi</hi>, a merchant (<hi rend="italic">residing in</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Raṇavīrappāḍi</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kāñchīpura</hi>, ordered (<hi rend="italic">it to be made</hi>) tax-free. We shall not enter (<hi rend="italic">in books) amañji, veṭṭi, iṟai, echchōṟu</hi> or any other kind (<hi rend="italic">of tax</hi>); we (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly (<hi rend="italic">further</hi>) ordered that those who act against this shall be liable to a fine of twenty-five <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold in the court of justice and that they shall incur the sins of the sinners (<hi rend="italic">residing</hi>) between <hi rend="bold">Gaṅgai</hi> (the Ganges) and <hi rend="bold">Kumari</hi> (Cape Comorin).</p>
