· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 3rd year and the 50th day (<hi rend="italic">of the reign</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">this is</hi>) the writing of us (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēruchaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a village</hi>) in its own subdivision in <hi rend="bold">Kāliyūr-kōṭṭam</hi>. The following are the lands given to (<hi rend="italic">the temple of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Ayyaṉ</hi>, the great <hi rend="bold">Śāstā</hi>, on the south side of our village for the sacred current expenses (<hi rend="italic">tiruchcheṉṉaḍai</hi>), a perpetual lamp, <hi rend="italic">śrībali</hi> and worship<note><hi rend="italic">Archchanābhōga</hi> corresponds to <hi rend="italic">archanāvṛitti</hi> of other inscriptions.</note> .</p>

Eight hundred and forty <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of first rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) which forms the third <hi rend="italic">pāḍagam</hi> in the first square, west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Paramēśvara-vadi</hi> of the first <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu (situated</hi>) to the south of the village; 400 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of first rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) of the third square to the west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Paramēśvara-vadi</hi> in the second and third <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi> on the south side of the village; 360 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of first rate (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>) of the fourth and fifth squares to the west of (<hi rend="italic">the path called</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Paramēśvara-vadi</hi> in the second <hi rend="italic">kaṇṇāṟu</hi> on the south side of the village; in all 1,600 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of land equal to <foreign><hi rend="grantha">kha</hi></foreign> <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> of land<note>The symbol <foreign><hi rend="grantha">kha</hi></foreign> denotes one-fourth <hi rend="italic">vēli</hi> of land and <hi rend="italic">mā</hi>, one-twentieths. These two added up give us only 600 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> of land, on the supposition that one <hi rend="italic">vēli</hi> is equal to 2,000 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi>. Some inscriptions, however, point to a <hi rend="italic">vēli</hi> being = 6,376 or nearly 6,400 <hi rend="italic">kuḻi</hi> in which case <hi rend="italic">mā</hi> here may not represent the usual one-twentieth of a <hi rend="italic">vēli</hi>.</note> . We made these lands tax-free as long as the moon and the sun last, having received <hi rend="italic">pūrvāchāram</hi> from <hi rend="bold">Śāttaṉ Brahmakuṭṭaṉ</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Puḷiyaṅguḍi</hi> and agreeing that we do not show (<hi rend="italic">as due</hi>) against (<hi rend="italic">them</hi>) any kind of (<hi rend="italic">tax such as) iṟai, echchōṟu, veṭṭi</hi> and <hi rend="italic">amañji</hi>.</p>

· <p>(L. 5.) Those who deviate from this and show the taxes (<hi rend="italic">as due</hi>) shall pay a fine of 25 <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold to the credit of the court of justice whenever demanded, and those who act against this charity shall incur the sin committed (<hi rend="italic">by sinners</hi>) between <hi rend="bold">Gaṅgā</hi> (the Ganges) and <hi rend="bold">Kumari</hi> (Cape Comorin). We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the great assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēru-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> having unanimously agreed to this grant, freed this land from taxes. Under orders of the assembly, I, the arbitrator (<hi rend="italic">madhyastha</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Śivadāsaṉ Aiyāyirattirunūṟṟuva Brahmapriyaṉ</hi>, wrote (<hi rend="italic">this</hi>).</p>
