85 <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 3rd year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Pārthivēndrādhipativarman</hi> who took the head of <hi rend="bold">Vīra-Pāṇḍya</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">this is</hi>) the writing of us (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly of <hi rend="bold">Uttaramēlūr-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a village</hi>) in its own subdivision in <hi rend="bold">Kāliyūr-kōṭṭam</hi>. The following lands were granted for sacred offerings, sacred lamps and <hi rend="italic">archanābhōga</hi> to (<hi rend="italic">the temple of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Mahāvishṇu</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Sōmanēri</hi> in our village:—</p>

· <p>(L. 6.) We, (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly having received <hi rend="italic">pūrvāchāram</hi> from <hi rend="bold">Śandiraṉ Eḻunūṟṟuva Nuḷamba-Māyilaṭṭi</hi> for the above land, ordered it to be free from all taxes as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">last</hi>). We shall not show any kind of (<hi rend="italic">tax</hi>), such as <hi rend="italic">iṟai, echchōṟu, amañji, veṭṭi</hi> against this (<hi rend="italic">land</hi>). We (<hi rend="italic">the members</hi>) of the big assembly (<hi rend="italic">also</hi>) ordered that if (<hi rend="italic">any such taxes are</hi>) shown (<hi rend="italic">against it</hi>), each person (<hi rend="italic">so showing</hi>) shall be liable to pay a fine of twenty-five <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold in the court of justice (<hi rend="italic">dharmāsana</hi>).</p>
