35 <p>The inscription is dated in the 14th year of <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>. It registers the gift of the produce of a certain field in <hi rend="bold">Kaḷarikuṟichchi</hi>, for expenses in connexion with the fire oblations (<hi rend="italic">agnikārya</hi>) in the temple at <hi rend="bold">Tiruneḍuṅgaḷam</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kavira-nāḍu</hi>. The king is probably identical with <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi> after whom <hi rend="bold">Uttamaśōḻa-Brahmādhirāja</hi> mentioned in the inscription, was so called.</p>

· <p>Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 14th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman, Vēlveṭṭi-Gōvindabhaṭṭaṉ</hi>, who manages the temple business (<hi rend="italic">śrikāryam</hi>) for <hi rend="bold">Śembiyaṉ Vaḍapuṟaiyūrnāṭṭu-Mūvēndavēḷār</hi>, a servant (<hi rend="italic">kanmi</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Uttamaśōḻa-Brahmādhirāja</hi>, thus made the following arrangement for fire oblations (<hi rend="italic">agnikārya) (to be conducted</hi>) daily at the three junctures (<hi rend="italic">of the day) (in the temple</hi>) of this god <hi rend="bold">Mahādēva</hi> (<hi rend="italic">Śiva</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Tiruneḍuṅgaḷam</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Kaviranāḍu</hi>. Receiving the twelve <hi rend="italic">kalam</hi> of paddy that shall be measured out annually to us from (<hi rend="italic">the field ?</hi>) Mīyvākkāṉkarai in <hi rend="bold">Kaḷarikuṟichchi</hi> (<hi rend="italic">a village situated</hi>) in this <hi rend="italic">nāḍu</hi>, we, the trustees of this sacred temple agree to secure for (<hi rend="italic">each</hi>) time, half <hi rend="italic">piḍi</hi> of ghee, <hi rend="italic">mēleri</hi><note>The meaning of this word is not given in the dictionaries. Perhaps it may refer to faggots (<hi rend="italic">mel-eri</hi>) thrown over the fire in the sacrifice.</note> (<hi rend="italic">and</hi>) other things required for the <hi rend="italic">agnikārya</hi> and have it performed. This (<hi rend="italic">shall be under</hi>) the protection of all <hi rend="italic">Māhēśvaras</hi>.</p>
