35 <p>This inscription which is dated in the 9th year of king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman Uttama-Chōḷadēva</hi> registers provision for food-offering made by the officer <hi rend="bold">Villavaṉ Mūvēndavēḷāṉ</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Puduvūr</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Tirunaṟaiyūr-nāḍu</hi>, to the temple of <hi rend="bold">Mahādēva</hi> (<hi rend="italic">Śiva</hi>) of the sacred <hi rend="bold">Vīraṭṭāna</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Tirukkaṇḍiyūr. Tirukkaṇḍiyūr</hi> is one of the eight <hi rend="bold">Vīraṭṭāna</hi> temples mentioned in the <hi rend="italic">Dēvāram</hi>.</p>

80 <p>Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 9th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) the glorious <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷadēva</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>, I, <hi rend="bold">Māyāṉ Kāñjaṉ</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Villavaṉ Mūvēndavēḷāṉ</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Puduvūr</hi> residing in <hi rend="bold">Puduvūr</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">a village</hi>) of <hi rend="bold">Tirunaṟaiyūr-nāḍu</hi>, (<hi rend="italic">gave</hi>) for burning with ghee one sacred perpetual lamp to (<hi rend="italic">the temple of</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Mahādēva</hi> of the sacred <hi rend="bold">Vīraṭṭāna</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Tirukkaṇḍiyūr</hi> and for providing as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">endure</hi>), big (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, special) sacred offerings to this <hi rend="bold">Mahādēva</hi> (<hi rend="italic">Śiva</hi>) of the sacred <hi rend="bold">Vīraṭṭāna</hi>, in each month on the day of <hi rend="bold">Śōdi</hi> (Śvāti) which is the day of my nativity, were given seven <hi rend="italic">kuṟuṇi</hi> and four <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of paddy for (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, to be converted into) three <hi rend="italic">kuṟuṇi</hi> of rice cleaned ten or eight times; one <hi rend="italic">padakku</hi> of paddy for (<hi rend="italic">one) uri</hi> of sweet ghee; . . . . and three <hi rend="italic">uḻākku</hi> of paddy for four <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of curds; (<hi rend="italic">one) kuṟuṇi</hi> and three <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of paddy for two <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of good dhal; (<hi rend="italic">one) kuṟuṇi</hi> of paddy for four <hi rend="italic">palam</hi> of sugar and . . . . . plantain fruits; four <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of paddy and . . . . . for (<hi rend="italic">one) uḻākku</hi> of . . . . . ; three <hi rend="italic">nāḻi</hi> of paddy for twelve areca-nuts and (<hi rend="italic">one) kuṟuṇi</hi> of paddy for firewood.</p>
